The idea behind the shootout was good. Range is highly dependent on a large number of factors, but field strength gives you an absolute measure of a transmitter's effectiveness.
And comparisons are all well and good, but some conditions, such as grounds, favor some transmitters over others.
That's why I would like to see the original shootout field strength numbers. And then other, comparable measurements with different grounds, antennas, etc.

That is a very interesting experience and makes me want to learn more about it and what I think it means for the hobby is that so far we have many things to learn about what is truly possible.
Mighty, I hope you find it possible to test and compare the other certified AM transmitters.

Saw a post just the other day on Hobby broadcaster that they are going to review the basic EDM FM transmitter. Wonder how they can justify that on a Part 15 website (and what the results will be) when it's advertised output is 10/100mw, far above legal levels.

Aren't They Out of Business?
When I try to visit hobbybroadcaster_net I get nothing. I figured they had gone out of business.

EDM and Veronica have always been recommended for those who have the $$ for them. Too bad most of us can't see the reviews at snobbycaster.

LOL.
I've actually owned the EDM transmitter they will be testing. and I did test it (at 10mw) to compare it to a BETS-1 certified Decade MS-100. It doesn't take a broadcast engineer to deduce by comparing the ranges of the two to conclude that its field strength is considerably more than legal limits, even in Canada (which is why I never ended up using it). Overall, I wasn't very impressed with the EDM, as I found its signal bled into adjacent channels more than other transmitters (including the Decade), and it was extremely prone to hum from the power supply.
It's a strange choice for a review by those guys.

I think the MS-100 can be turned up to 1 Watt. And NO hum.

No, the most it can do is 1mw and at that level it is certified for RSS123 only.
The LX-75 (RSS123 only) can do 60 mw (dip switch selectable).

If he gets the same results as you and discovers they are less than legal the review will reflect that. I've seen the EDM stuff on eBay and always assumed it was chinese garbage. A good example is their review of the very questionable Whole House FM transmitter.

Really?. An advertised 10 mw (with a high power switch for 100 mw)? Pretty much the same as the 'Chinese garbage' he goes on about. The only reason I tried it out was the higher limits here in Canada, and the thought that the output could somehow be attenuated.
This transmitter could never be certified due to its standard antenna connector, never mind that power switch). At least the Whole House 3 has a certification sticker. And the SSTran gear can be tuned & installed to be compliant, much like the Rangemaster.
Like I said, a strange choice, given HB's outspoken stance on pirates and illegal operation.

It's a FRONT don't forget Bill and his 5 mile Radio Camp FM unlicensed station.
Bill D proves the New Radio Revolution's stance on so called Legal part 15 Radio it's the Big Lie like cocaine. Well you know the rest of Bill his lies and all the ilk.

I have figured out who is doing what. Pelham Broadcasting is the one blocking IP addresses. I can not get to the site from work. But I can get to the site on a different IP. Pelham = Hobby Broadcaster!

Very Keen Discovery
Good scouting, Druid Hills, I confirmed what you discovered and have to think...
If those guys were a military unit on a mission it could only succeed as a sitcom on television.
