Zara Remains Favorite Software of ManyOnce I started using Zara I got hooked like many others... it reliably semi-automates the radio station and can be easily overridden for manual intervention. An added plus are all the extra functions tucked into Zara, one of which I discovered today. Just above the top right of the Playlist Window is a circular juxta-position of two curved arrows, labeled "Loop". Whatever audio is currently playing will play indefinitely over and over as long as "Loop" is enabled. When my programming is running ahead of schedule I have used "Loop" to play brief promotional messages repeatedly until the clock catches up, and then un-click "Loop" so the next program starts on time. This impresses me as much as it would an audience if there were one. BONUS MATERIAL - I Wikipediad "Zara" and find it has been freely used to mean many different things: Uses of ZARA in the world of words

During one of the ALPB meetings I mentioned that in Zara the next track would step on the end of the previous track. Someone mentioned the command to use to prevent that but I didn't write it down. I have been unable to find it in the help file. Can anyone help?

For Jim Henry
Tools/Options/Fade - set overlap to ZERO; Set Fade to ZERO.

Somewhere in the manual is an explanation regarding appending the file name with a tildi ~ and possibly a number.
This prevents overlap. I'm using it with my time/temperature automated announcement files and short ID's to prevent them from running together.
When I get a chance I'll see how I did that and let you know.

From the manual:
By default, the value selected for overlapping applies to all tracks. Nevertheless, it is possible to give a specific value of overlapping to each song. The file must be renamed by adding ~n to the file name where “n” is an integer. For example, in the file "Blues~1.mp3", one second will be the overlap value. “Detect the end of the song” must be disabled for this to work. Decimal values normally can’t be used as part of the file name. Exception- (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options - > Standards and Formats - > Customize) change the decimal symbol to an allowed symbol. Options "Fade on overlap" and "Fade on stop":
So I used zero for no overlap.

Here's another Zara question: I thought it allowed url's in the playlist in addition to files on the server. Some programmers offer their product to you via a url that remains constant. So far I have been unable to make that work. Help!

Zara Re-Streaming Tool
Jim Henry: "Some programmers offer their product to you via a url that remains constant."
Connecting to a live stream from Zara has not worked well for me either. It does work with some stream URL's but refuses to work with others.
In April KDX carried the live New Orleans Jazz Festival from WWOZ. The URL refused to run in Zara, so I ran the URL from Winamp.

Putting a Stream Link in the PlaylistThe technique shown by End80 tells us how to set the Upcoming Events Window to switch to a stream at a specified time. Another way to schedule a stream is to place it in the Playlist at the point where you want it to occur. From the Menu Bar: Playlist/Add internet streamHere is a URL that works, which connects to WCRN 830 AM in Worcester, Massachusettes 74.91.20.139:8064/streamCopy it over to the Zara Internet Stream Window. Be sure to set the clock in the Zara Stream Window or the stream will skip.

Be sure to set the clock in the Zara Stream Window or the stream will skip. I'll be damned.. I've never done that, but it doesn't surprise me; sometimes I accidentally save webpages to the music folder, and when they 'play' in Zara's playlist, internet explore would open up to display the page!..
Anyway, I now see my answer didn't even belong to the question asked, so my goof. But using the event handler for streams might be a better solution, mainly for time scheduling options and for programming structure. I've not really considered just dropping URLs in the playlist before, but now that you bring it to light, I can think of at least a few situations where it could prove a better option.

Different Kinds of URL's
End80 asks: "What's a link to a URL of the ones that didn't work? It might be interesting to compare to find what the difference might be."
Today I'll spend some time going into my past notes about this... I have tried to figure out why some URL's work and some don't... maybe we can figure it out.
Keep watch later today I will post some information.
