For the upcoming Meeting of the ALPB I am submitting this Request to place on the Agenda the First in what may be a Series of discussions on topics relating to Part 15 Websites and related internet matters with the objective of avoiding as much expense as possible. For a first example, KDXradio.com has so far during its existence maintained a commercial website for an annual fee with Internet Solutions which includes e-mail addresses and plenty of storage space for the growing archive of Low Power Hours and other programs made available for download to Part 15 stations. The first matter, that of establishing a free website, has already been demonstrated by MRAM 1500 with his Abyss open-source website hosted on his home computer. MRAM 1500 ABYSS HOME SITETherefore KDX will probably start a free Abyss home website in 2017, which resolves one question. But the next issue is, how can I retain the e-mail address "carl(@)kdxradio.com"? And, not wanting to provide download service from my home computer for radio programs, where can all the Low Power Hours be stored for access by stations? Looking forward to ideas.

Thoughts which I'm sure will interest many of our members. We'll be sure to bring these ideas to the floor this week at The ALPB meeting of June 18th.

Victory and Triumph
Last night's Meeting of the ALPB is a prime example of the amazing effectiveness of the organization.
As mentioned in the earlier post Carl Blare consulted the attendees regarding methods for operating a radio station website, setting up e-mail addresses and offering radio programs for download by other stations, at minimum possible cost.
Many ideas were put forward and Chairman Bob MRAM set up a working model by posting a copy of The Low Power Hour on his home computer's website which was experimentally downloaded by Barry Blue Bucket Radio in Busy Kentucky and Carl Worldround Radio in the shallows of the Mississippi River, proving that everything can be done at home with no extra cost.
If Donald Trump had this quality of advisers he wouldn't have to build so many walls and Hillary Clinton wouldn't have to keep track of so many lies.
Failure is a thing of the past with the ALPB.

I posted this on Part15.us also.... After missing nearly all of the ALPB meeting but hearing just enough to get an idea in my head, i have installed and have running a website from home on a fairly beefy HP Pavilion Desktop PC. I am still working on the web pages but the main page (index.html) is nearly finished. This is an experiment at this point and i really don't know if it will stay online for a long time or just go away in a few weeks. We will just have to see what happens. Here is the url: thefreeproject.no-ip.orgMembers please try it out and let me know how it works for you, good and bad comments welcomed. Thanks P.S. This gave me a project to do, but ...i already have too many projects as it is.

Barry's Home Site
Hello Barry.
As you know from the e-mail I sent to you, I tried the Home Website Link you posted at part15(dot)us.
I get the same results here...
Your Test Website comes up right away, but the Listen link only results in a "Connection Timed Out".
Is the audio link a plain mp3 file, or is it being generated from a Stream Server?

Yes! I tried it and the site came up very quickly. The listen to link is which does not go anywhere. Very nice graphics and layout on the site!

Thanks for the reports on The Free Project website, i am floored! To be honest, I did not expect the website to load quickly for anyone considering this PC is running on wifi and not a direct connection to the router, although the router is in the studio with the PC. The listen link has been disabled for now, there was an issue with the mp3 server software that i have not had the patience to mess with just yet, i will say though having every thing on a machine you can access in person rather than over the internet is a plus! No delayed response from the server like you'd have if it was being accessed over the internet across a vast network. And the html editor I use, Komposer is on the same machine as well, as soon as i make an update to the webpages and press save the updates are live a little bit quicker than if i had to FTP them to a remote server. I do want to add an FTP server and will probably go with Filezilla FTP server, it is easy to set up and from past experiences very reliable. Having messed with many servers over the years, it is kind nice to be back at it again. If i keep this going, i am thinking about going back to Linux and doing away with Windows 7. For the time being, this is still a test so we shall see. Carl, best of luck with your sever. Thanks Barry of Blue Bucket Radio 1620 AM Edit: I forgot to mention the template for the website was found at www.freewebsitetemplates.com/

To Serve
I also use Kompozer for the HTML files, and although Mozilla didn't continue supporting and developing Kompozer, it does the job.
The larger internet is not aiming at small operators with their various services, and view everything as a "business".
Except for a few interesting exceptions, part 15 radio stations are hobbies of very small scale and need only a small portion of support services.
Thanks to ALPB and these forums we are able to experiment with and share information about amazing DIY methods for "doing it all" without paying corporate prices.
Good work Barry.

WAKE EVERYBODY UPIt's 1:12 AM CDT now, but I just broke through the otherside of It Can't-Be-Done Mountain! This is still the After Party from last Saturday night's ALPB Meeting that Barry and I have been holding down by experimenting with websites hosted on our home computers. Despite near 100-degree temperatures today I wrestled with getting NO-IP working, which assigns a name to my private IP address, and hours later I broke through the defiant router and made contact with the Abyss Web Server and the future home of KDX Worldround Radio. Pay us a visit. KDX HOMEMADE WEBSITETomorrow we will experiment with MP3 files for download and KDX Stream Server.

Copied from Part15.us Well i went for broke and have pointed the domain www.bluebucketradio.com to the home webserver thefreeproject.no-ip.org. I have also downloaded all of the old web pages from the original website and added them to the server. Later I want to try to mess with the virtual servers provided with WAMP. Thanks Going to visit the Homemade website at KDX

Wow, it turns out the Blue Buckets were fiddling with their website at the same time and so I linked over there and got some laffs from the About page and the pictures.

HAHA! I've been trying to keep my spirits up Carl, this freakin heat and humidity is something else! On my home page the Listen to our stream has been updated with an M3u file, it is basically a wrapper containing a link to an mp3 or rather one of the The Little Things Radio Show episodes and below that is a link to download that episode. My way of finding out what works and what doesn't.... This heat though...ugh. EDITED THE IMAGE

They Both Work
The Listen link opens my VLC player and brings a clear, stable playback of the "Little Things Show".
The Here link will play the file if left-clicked and download the file if right-clicked.
You are achieving things even with the heat.
Right, though, this heat turns people into 900-pound sacks of sand that don't want to stand up.

My poor Siberian Husky is not liking the heat at all, you can't shave them either though some people make that mistake. So that's great, i know i can at least make a playlist in an .m3u file or offer files as downloads, very cool. We are both making progress! You did download the NO-IP DUC software didn't you Carl? It keeps the domain pointed to your current i.p. Meanwhile, staying hydrated is the key.. though i would like some wine but alcohol dehydrate... eh i have Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice. Stay Thirsty My Friends... for knowledge that is lol

Drinking in the Midnight HeatWe actually have some wine here at Worldround Radio, but we agree that 90-degree heat is no time to consume alcohol, so the mention of red grapefruit juice sounds very delicious. Now 9:11 AM CDT here at the Internet Building with temperatures on the way back up... we have added "Radio Server Room" to our homesite for testing of radio streams from: KDX.HOPTO.ORG
