I recall someone referring to the President as "the orange clown."
That seems somewhat of a personal attack.
I recall someone saying "look close that woman is a man."
That seems somewhat of a personal attack.
There were more but let's not go down that path. Let's just agree that being critical of a persons agenda or policies is one thing but those type of personal attacks are quite another.

The Art of Criticism
Ridiculing public figures through caricatures, humor, cartoonery, satire, parody, and lampoon, is a time-honored form of protest and dissent. These are not "attacks" but criticisms.
At the same time, these forums through their admins have the authority to set the standard anywhere on the scale.

And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
You have put this into perspective. As a Moderator you set the limits.
It has been stressed by your Admin that political sparring has no place here. The root of the referenced "criticisms" is political (public figures) in nature which is out of bounds.
Or is there a double standard here?

I believe that we need to focus the content of this Forum on low power broadcasting (not just Part 15, as we are international in scope), and programming for that activity.
Once politics enters the fray, it's all too easy to throw in offhand comments that reflect your own personal views, which then get rebuttals from those who don't hold those views.
Some find comments against the President offensive. Some find the President offensive. But discussions surrounding those have no place in this Forum.
Carl once stated that programming is a great way to put forward those political views. There is an opportunity to make that programming available to other low power stations through the ALPB. Let your programming speak on politics. Not by posting.

And to MRAM
It looks to me like we define words differently and (sometimes) characterize things differently, and that happens to a lot of people.
I always welcome input about improving how things are done.

Curbing My Enthusiasm
Lots of ideas are crowding the head during this time prior to The Big Meeting on March 3rd, but I want to avoid flooding the forum by hashing around with a steady flow of posts.
Here's the plan. I have a notebook and will write down ideas for presentation to the membership during the meeting. That saves a lot of words from being typed into this forum.
At the same time there is value talking over many of our ideas prior to the meeting as a way of gathering input to fine-tune what we end up wanting to do.
One thing is we should not allow guns in the TeamSpeak Room.

No Need for Bullet Proof Vest On My Account
It was said: "Someone may shoot their self in the foot."
I'm not that good a shot. I always miss my foot.

Lost in the Thread
It's not easy to remain "on topic" once a thread becomes this long.
I just spent most of the morning reading this entire thread so I could weave smoothly into it without going off topic. So here we go...
Somewhere in another thread MRAM, ALPB Founding Admin/Chairman, lamented that his reign was "lax" in controlling forum content but this is a wrong self-deprecation in my opinion. Some posts may have occasionally been lenient, but much favorable comment has been made about that. This isn't a military boarding school where hair must be combed and shoes polished at every moment.
The rules governing a forum are not and cannot be set in stone, they are an organic function that adapts to the individuality of its members. Descending to the lowest common denominator of the least mature is a growth killer and works only for the bully crowd.
Right now we have a wonderful group of people with a very wide spread of view points and our new Admin is very obviously a thinking man who concentrates like a laser on the path ahead.
New members are arriving by the busload because the scent of adventure is in the air. I believe we ARE the organization envisioned on day one over 5-years ago!
Bob Felmly, you brought the ALPB to the right place at the right time and should now experience the reward of a job well done.
Epilog
The ALPB is progressive in the correct sense of the word. If there's any tension it is from a conservative drag pulling in reverse to pre-enlightenment. That is not political but merely bluntly frank.
