It was a nice warm 80 degree day in Deltaville Virginia. I took my Grundig 450 DLX radio out to do some testing on the FM transmitter. While outside I decided to test 1630 kilohertz on AN to see if it was still blank because I was thinking about the possibility of running an AM transmitter alongside the FM.
To my surprise ESPN sports has now apparently started a sports station on 1630 Khz. Thank God I didn't buy that Sstran.
So now AM is useless here because 1640 Khz is too close to 1650 and 1630 Khz. Even 1700 has Mexican talk and music. 1710 is blank so if I do AM it's either 1710 Khz on air and selling the Talking House TX to pay for a TX that does 1710 Khz or use 530 AM with the upcoming wall socket coupler.
I think this may happen in more areas than just mine.

What about other places like somewhere between 1400 and 1600? Must be space there.
Like that weather you are having!

Have you looked elsewhere such as down to 1350 or so? When I decided on 1660 I still do pick up a sports station from Kalamazoo, MI plus a Hispanic station coming from somewhere. I'll have to see if WRDW is playing with their power. It was 4pm and it was quite clear.
It may have been a hobby broadcaster but it sounded like a pro station. It could have been a 10 Watt Greece transmitter.

Even if WRDW were playing around with the power, you are over 400 miles from them, so don't see how you could possibly be receiving clearly at 4 in the afternoon. All that makes sense to me is that someone local had to be rebroadcasting their stream.
Or maybe it's Carl's Pole Flip.

I did NOT receive the station Today. I tried before 4pm at 4pm and after 5pm nothing came in on 1630 Khz.
I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this.

I use two maybe three WebSDR's one of which is 2 hours North of Deltaville in Reston ,VA and occaisonally i hear on 1630 through that receiver a recored loop saying "this is AM 1630" The short bit of audio sounded fairly decent but it also sounded close by, no static.
Maybe the two are linked but then again, 100 mW won't sound that good 175 miles away so probably not the same station unless their are a number of stations linked together like maybe the Hamilton Rangemaster? Still, that scenario sounds too far fetched.
I just don't know. I do know i never can use 1630 here either as there had been a sports talker on that one.
Isn't there an ESPN station out West that was using or is using Hamilton Rangemasters synced to cover a city??

Yeah.. somewhere.. I can't recall or find the details now, but know what your talking about with the ESPN part 15 broadcaster (not even sure if part 15 can legally air ESPN). I think his station somehow incorporated the name "Fox",.. You have me curious now cause I don't remember, but I have been to his website in the past and noticed that it had no mention of part 15 anywhere.
