This is something I decided within the past minute... I think many part 15 broadcasters today have it all wrong trying to increase range and develop an audience within a short distance from their transmitters... talk about lost causes.
No. The way this should be done is that every household needs to install and operate a part 15 radio transmitter and manage their own program streams.
Then with so many thousands of stations for miles around the operators who want their programs heard get out there and make contact with neighbors for miles in all directions and convince them to carry your shows, and if they produce something maybe you'd want to add it to your playlist.
MrBruce had this idea and accomplished having multiple friends relaying his programming until underhanded thugs found out about it and broke his kneecaps.
If everybody in America starts listening to his/her own station, radio will be free from monopoly jail.

I also think Mrbruces concept was excellent. It is shameful he was raked over the coals... but I fear that horse is no longer breathing, and I don't want to beat it anymore. I do hear and feel his frustration, he is justified in my opinion.
I have considered doing something similar here. Provide the stream as a secured medium for "feeding the transmitter(s)". Then provide technical support for those wanting to rebroadcast my programming. But, the first thing that comes to mind...so many laws and regulations. I will not wax political, but I want to.
I think the ALPB is already off to a good start on the "shared programming" If we all could contribute (I am guilty of not doing so at present), we would have a large repertoire of programming available for Part 15 users to rebroadcast. With a larger number of contributors, a variety of programming would allow to cover most interests. We already have a good start in the links section.
my .02 with inflation is worth -100.00 Put it on my account please!

Become a Person of Title
CraigF I like your ideas now that you like mine, and I see you as executive material.
Join the ALPB and within 5-minutes we can have you fixed up with a title.
Since you endorse the radio program streams and sources being offered at thealpb(dot)com perhaps you could be Station Relations Director.
Your initiation will require dragging out any dead horses as may be lying about.

You know if you could only have waterproof transmitters and rent a spot on the utility pole one could have several of those in a chain and then get their signal out for a few miles. You figure 1 ever 1,000 feet. You could use WiFi to repeat the signal from one to the other each would have another WiFi repeater as well as the transmitter. so it receives the signal and then sends it off via WiFi to the next transmitter and so on.
It would be very expensive, but imagine at least an entire neighborhood could get covered that way. And then get the neighbors involved in having shows and that way you would have a community Radio station by the people for the people.

Doable
Looking back in the darkened hallways of memory I believe I've heard of a small town station somewhere that put transmitters on utility poles and covered the main buildings with part 15 radio. The lightbulbs are burned out in that part of my head so I can't remember where I heard that.
Anyway, I'd know how to do it. The utility poles are managed by the electric company, so you need to contract with them to mount your weatherproof transmitters. They'll send a monthly bill.
Next, you call the telephone company and order a "dry line" between your radio station and connected to all the transmitters. They will send a monthly bill for the line.
Third, you hire an independent line-man with a bucket truck and a tall-ladder who can go up there and connect the line to the transmitters. Or maybe the telephone company will do it.
Back at the station you will apply low-voltage to the line which will make the transmitters turn on, and super-impose audio on the line from a balanced-output audio amplifier.
You will previously have set the transmitters to the operating frequency and set them for a standard line-level.
You could mess with the Wi-Fi repeater thing, but you'd still need power and you'd still need some way to turn the whole thing on and off, so the phone line is less complicated.
As you lose money month after month people will be able to hear your station if they want to, so the question will be... why don't they want to?

As Station Relations Director, of course, I will need an unlimited expense account, and a key to the executive washroom!!
I will need artwork, lots of artwork, and voiceovers... I want voiceovers. Where are those headlines?
I think the power is going to my head....
I hereby endorse this endorsement!!

Returning the Call
CraigF has agreed to serve the ALPB as Station Relations Director based on his demands...
As Station Relations Director, of course, I will need an unlimited expense account, and a key to the executive washroom!!
We don't even have limited expense accounts which avoids expenses altogether.
The washroom is gender and management neutral located in the Multi-Purpose Hallway, open keylessly to all incoming and outgoing traffic, the copy machine and the coffee bar.
We encourage power gone to the head because it's the only power a part 15er will ever have.

You Don't Have a Title?
First, let me tell you a secret... I have no authority to be handing out titles. Isn't that funny?
So, Mr. Hills, go ahead and pick a title but you have to write your own job description.

And to think, I am listening to my part 15 station like it is the real thing. In my mind, it is! My mind is such a small place that coverage is great! I have a part 15 mind.

Truth be told, I have not heard anything from the peanut gallery at the land of make-believe.
Seriously though, I do have 3 people who are encouraging me to allow my station to be back on the network, as it once was, once-upon-a-time in never, never, land. They still have their Decade MS-100 transmitters and want me to allow my station to be back on the air in their apartment buildings.
Thinking about it, still thinking about it, hmmm? Well seriously once I get this C-Quam AM stereo transmitter up to part 15 output, I sure as hell want to mess with doing a AM stereo broadcast as part of the network and be my city's first AM stereo station!
I won't have to worry about mixing the stereo audio into monophonic, since the transmitter has a left and right input and the transmitter is already tuned for AM stereo channel separation. I've used it and have a Radio Shack TM-152 AM C-Quam stereo receiver that hooks up to the line level inputs of a Pioneer stereo receiver system. The sound was perfect crystal clear stereophonic sound!
I would like to do a blog at some point along with photos of how WXTZ was operated by a group of community citizens who liked being a part of radio, even though they were the silent party. For the time being my station is on-line on numerous sites, world wide and we play our music off of Vinyl Records, Cassette Tapes, Reel To Reel Tape, 8-Track Tapes and CDs!
To Be Continued...........
Bruce.

Popular Demand
MrBruce your radio network is the perfect role model for other part 15 radio stations wanting to grow an audience. This website needs you, the other website needs you even though you no longer need it, and the listeners... it's all about the listeners.
I will pledge to carry your programs part time on KHZ AM 1640 and KDX-FM 89.9 the "Experimental Indoor Antenna Stations" launching soon. We're one patch cord away from sign on.
If you don't do this you'll be throwing away your life.
