Someone attached a .docx file to an email but I can't find any way to open the file and read it. One program, "Microsoft Office Excel Viewer", which I didn't know I had, told me it will not open the docx file because of (and it gave a long list of possible reasons for the failure with no solutions). Searched for open source file converters, but found nothing. You know a way to open a docx file?

I use an older version of Word and it will usually open the file. It just warns that I can't save the file without losing certain formatting.

Got it done. Thank you Admin for your input. Luckily, I found a solution that works very well, a free software from NCH Software called Doxllian Document Converter. LINK TO DOXILLIAN CONVERTER

Open Office is a free "office" suite very similar to Microsoft Office suite which works with the Microsoft files also.

Shall check it out.
Thank you Masked Admin. "Open Office" will get a trial run. It might be the right thing after the wrong time.

As the Planet WobblesThe one DOCX file that I needed to open was successfully opened using "Doxillian" from NCH, but I noticed that NCH also attached a bunch of other little odds-and-ends-software that I never requested... and then today I got notice that the "Trial Period" had ended and I was offered a discount to buy. "Doxillian" has been removed with my gratitude for solving the one need I had. We turn our attention to "Open Office" as suggested by Admin. That will solve future DOCX needs. APACHE OPEN OFFICE FORMERLY OPEN OFFICEThe ALPB turned my life around and made me famous, rich, and popular.
