I almost skipped this next story about "pirate radio" because of the blatant propaganda and misrepresentation stirred into it coming from government and corporate sources, but the ending of the piece contributed by John Anderson of DIY Media actually makes a point that the story otherwise doesn't lead up to. Very insightful, reading about the demise of KGO and then following up with this story it's easy to see why so many are operating outside the rules.
Yes, it's a problem and no we should not condone it but something has to give. Hopefully the "vultures" will feed on each other and finally all die out. Only then, perhaps, will the "mom and pop" stations once again supply local, live programming which is sorely needed.
