Hello, I am your news columnist, Carl "Mister" Blare, introducing 360-Degree Radio, "hear things from all sides through the power of suggestion".
Our demonstration will begin in a moment, but first let me tell you how the idea evolved...
I happened to come upon an Accu-Weather video which captured a tornado in Colorado on a 360-degree video camera atop a moving van, and I thought... "This is impressive, but we can do the same thing on radio minus the camera and van and we don't even need to go to Colorado".
So here we are this Wednesday morning in the Center of North America, inside the internet building at the control work station for KDX Worldround Radio, and while Carl "Mister" is typing this story into the keyboard, by swiveling to his right we can see a C.Crane Radio Plus sharing space with a coffee cup on top of a professional bar stool, the radio display panel showing 89.5 FM as we hear a commercial break in this morning's Alex Jones Show.
A moment ago the radio was tuned to 89.9 FM for the sound track of the tornado video.
Pivoting to the left, next to the workstation, another stool supports a six-foot bamboo-tripod indoor radio tower which contains the transmission facilities for the two FM channels, along with the receiver/antenna for a wireless microphone at 183.4 MHz.
Putting the demonstration on pause, "Mister" reaches for the coffee cup, rises, and heads into the Upper Management Lounge on the far left to replenish his coffee.
