I do think about it.
Probably like most part 15 operators I sometimes have the urge to crank the power or stretch the antenna.
For example this Ramsey FM30 transmitter is capable of being set low for legal 15.239 power, but simple buttons can boost and then some; from 200-feet all the way up to 1,000-feet.
And back there, that AMT5000 transmitter from SStran can soup up to almost 400 mW. It goes to town.
But, here's why I never do it.
I think... what's out there? Who lives in the signal area where amplified signals could reach?
Over the years I've held conversations with everyone within the reachable horizon, and not one single one of them ever tunes on the radio looking for the kind of programs I offer. Every one of them watches cable TV, does things on Smartphones and heads off to the mall for sales.
For this part 15 operator, there would be no advantage at all to exceeding the rules.

I've said it on more than one occasion, I'm my own best listener!
It is very gratifying though when someone tells of hearing your station. But then, those persons are usually radio enthusiasts looking for something different, something other than the usual commercial station.
When I want to "get out" I turn on the carrier current station. It took some time to figure out how to make it work but it does! And son-of-a-gun, I always get to hear what I like to hear...

Man Who Knows
Absolutely MRAM 1500, that's what it's all about.
Part 15 radio makes YOU, or in my case it makes ME, the radio station and listener in one!
That's the trick; the secret; the purpose; the meaning; the goal; the objective; the reason; the intention; the cause; and everything.
It's the old now obsolete radio mission to BROADcast to many, with lots of disappointment over programming.
By giving each listener his or her own radio station, he and she is never disappointed because they decide what to present.
It's so smart we've got to repress our braggadocio.

Our little town has had its LPFM on now for a few months and yes it's gratifying to run into someone who says "they just found it and they love it."

Surprise-Surprise... Last week at work we had finished a little early for the day and had an hour to burn.
I looked at my co-worker and said "you wanna do a live show?" So we headed into the production studio and proceeded to go live on WCFI-LP.
We talked a little, played a few tunes and then I announced the studio phone number as "The WCFI Listener Line."
Son-of-a-gun the phone rang. It was a nice lady responding to a question that came up during some of our talk about old TV shows. The question was what is the name of the 60's detective show star that always said "Who Loves Ya Baby?"
Well the lady told us the show was Kojak and the stars name, Telly Savalas. She went on to say how much she enjoyed the station.
A few minutes went by and RING-RING. Another caller to the "listener line." Another satisfied listener. This guy liked the fact that we are a station without a format. He likes the fact that you never know what's going to play next. I related to him that we get bad press in the pro journals for that and I won't tell you what he said about that.
Yes, it's great to know someone is out there listening...

WCFI Has Been Found
That is heartwarming news, Bob, and may there be many ad hoc unplanned shows to come on WCFI.
