They keep talking about it and there's lots of concern as of late that this will soon happen. If and when it does, it means internet, cellular and most other regular commercial communications will be unavailable. That's where we can help. As Part 15 broadcasters we will be able, for our local neighborhood areas, to broadcast important information as we obtain it. Following the "333" plan, info may be available from this national network of people following this plan which can be broadcast to those not having access to any of the 2-way radio services being used. What's the "333" plan? 2-way radio equipment such as FRS, GMRS, MURS, CB and Ham radio will be a means of communication to gather and/or pass information. How's it work? Most of these 2-way radios are channelized. Channel 3 will be used to monitor and/or pass information. The routine will be to monitor the channel for 3 minutes, every 3 hours starting at midnight local time. Specific Ham radio frequencies will be used as Ham radio is not channelized. For example, the national call frequency (146.520 mHz) for the 2-meter Ham band will be used. For a complete description of the SHTF 333 PLAN, click on this link.
