Zara seems to run OK on it but I've not added a library to it or anything. What I'm playing with in my head is to install a stripped down version of XP that I did with nlite years ago. In the past I've found tha doing so with a very old pentium 1 computer with 256 of ram dedicated to running only Zara would run literally for months 24/7 with out a single hiccup or a reboot.
This cheapo new laptop actually has considerably more processing power than that one did, even though this is nothing by today's standards.

Wow! that price for a new one! I have 2 11.5" Acers with exactly the same specs, in use only for broadcasting with Zara, nothing else and a brand new back up in case this one ever conks out.
But the one you got is exactly the same as the Acer, more rugged educational one with Windows 10 pro not in S mode. Same everything and you can't tell the difference between the two. I paid $299 on sale in Canada at Staples a while ago for the 2 of them.
I looked at this and I am willing to bet that this is the Acer but branded with a different name, all made in the same factory in China. Any laptop with at least a 3000 series Celeron and 4 gigs of RAM will work Zara fine without a glitch.
Looking closer I see that this one uses a 12volt charger not the 19.5V block style charger most computers use. So maybe some unseen differences, but still $60 for a new laptop with these specs.....great find. You should get a few of them!

You should get a few of them! The fact that it's 12v was the deciding factor to me, as it can be powered directly by a 12v battery, no inverter needed, making it more efficient and minimizing power draw On my boat I use a Yeti 1250 solar generator fed by two 100w solar panels - currently that powers only my 24 inch TV, several fans and lights easily, but soon will be buying a 12v fridge freezer so need more deep cells batteries first (only running a single battery now)

Have to ask...do you live on this boat or is this just for recreation? If you are out on the water(ocean), I assume your intent is not to broadcast to any audience? Hope you don't get any bad storms out there!

Hope you don't get any bad storms out there! I have been staying on the boat since February.. originally it was out of necessity, but still. On it just because it's so much cheaper. I'm anchored in the back river and dingy back and forth. Several years ago I experimented with the transmitter on my last boat for a week or two, but never really got serious with it. The salt water is the best ground condi to TY from what I unxerstsnd.. So playing around with it again. Went gone out to my storage garage in town about a week ago to retrieve a transmitter but haven't gotten around to installing it as I'm doing some remodeling of the interior. Haven't yet decided about proccessing.. Considering software or maybe that Scholwood proccessor.

The Schlockwood is good. Have used it for FM as well as AM and works nice with FM too. One thing is to go from the balanced mono signal out from the schlockwood to the stereo unbalanced input the transmitters have that mate the two channels together again for the AM mono. You need to do a minor mod to the audio cable at the schlockwood end. You have to access the wiring(you need better cable that is not molded) and move the wire on the ring to the tip so the tip and ring from the transmitter end both join to the tip at the schlockwood. If you just use the TRS cable from the schlockwood to the transmitter it won't work without the minor change in wiring. It's because you are going from a balanced mono output to an unbalanced 2 channel input. The only flaw in this otherwise great processor.
