HobbyBroadcaster.net Community Moves to Subscription Access
HobbyBroadcaster.net has been serving the Part 15 radio broadcasting enthusiast for more than 12 years. During this time HobbyBroadcaster.net has made a number of firsts for the hobby broadcast community, from featured broadcasters and station profiles, the broadcasters audio showcase, product reviews, comprehensive equipment evaluations, technical and legal resources as well as the first side-by-side Part 15 AM broadcast transmitter comparison, The AM Transmitter Challenge. Copycats have failed to compete, let alone gain the national recognition enjoyed by HobbyBroadcaster.net. Organizations such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Consumer Technology Association (formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Association), broadcast industry engineering trade paper Radio World, general interest radio publications such as CQ Amateur Radio, Monitoring Times and Popular Communications in addition to broadcast equipment manufacturers like Wheatstone / Audioarts, Inovonics, Radio Systems and International Station Specialists recognize your webmaster and HobbyBroadcaster.net as the reference for license free, legal low power radio broadcasting in accordance with FCC Part 15 regulations. HobbyBroadcaster.net has the unique distinction of being operated by a broadcast engineer with more than 45 years in the industry. Community membership includes current or former employees directly involved in the broadcast industry, ranging from audio production specialists, station owners / operators, technical / engineering personnel and manufacturers of equipment for licensed broadcasters, offering knowledgeable feedback to questions which encompass the entire world of Part 15 radio. To defray the continuing operating costs of the site, time constraints placed on the operators and support personnel as well as to allow future growth it's been determined that the forum community must move to subscription-based access at this time. Placing a real value on the knowledge offered within the forum community, additional member-only features and member first-view of upcoming new features will allow expansion of value-added exclusive features to the forum community membership. Information and resources available on the main portion of HobbyBroadcaster.net will continue to be available to the general public with no membership or subscription required. Subscribers in good standing, however, will continue to enjoy access to extra and bonus resources which are available via the main website.

Home-field advantage
Running the group on their own domain name and branding, likely they're a more self-contained and integrated site than others who use commercial services, so I can totally see it.

Does this mean that you have to pay a fee to join? The stringent requirements for membership there was bad enough before.

I'll try and tread lightly on what I really think of this but I sort of saw this one:
Do you still have to use your ISP's Email address (If they provide it)?
Does he check to see if a potential member ever expressed themselves for some sort of FCC rule change that may not be in the interest of himself of his followers in the industry in which fails to want to change and supply community Radio rather than a computerized or one satellite feed for all Radio stations in the area?
Does the site still only post the main topics of the forum but block replies to subscribers only?
This is so anti hobby Radio that it stinks here. You want to educate folks about what is "Legal and moral" then why block what should be public domain? If you can't afford to run your own website there are other alternatives like my site in which i pay NOTHING I mean NOTHING zip zero not a dime and it can support the same stuff Hobby Broadcaster has on its site without any issues what so ever. So I'm sorry I don't agree with his claim for "Website cost"!!
The corona virus has caused folks to have to live in isolation and therefore more part 15 hobby broadcasters are trying to set up stations and this act is yet another form of Price gouging in my book just to cash in on a very ugly situation. I don't mind saying this and I'm sorry hate he all you want but I hope he fails miserably to the point he has to shut his operations down. I sure hope he plans on filing taxes on all this revenue he will partake as well as possess a business license for his in home business of Hobby Broadcaster. If not he could face plenty of charges for breaking plenty of laws on this one and don't think this won't attract the wrong attention where it won't be investigated.
And Finally NEWS FLASH to those thinking they are the Only source for part 15 Wake Up!! there are plenty of open and free ways to get information. Obviously he hasn't had any experience with Facebook where there are plenty of Radio Broadcasting Hobby forums and one of which is ran by Michelle Bradly who in my opinion has way more experience then he ever has or will ever get. She worked with Prometheus a actual group who wanted to have change for Hobby Broadcasters but the NAB made it short of what was originally intended. Yet she does rock the boat and adds her opinion to conversations dealing with Hobby Broadcasting without trying to put another nail in the coffin to only allow huge organizations to broadcast only.
