Interesting little item. I myself have been watching for a Victrola at the estate sales.
I've seen some very nice console types but they're expensive. I have seen a couple desktop players but they were pretty rough.
I always wanted to make a working foil cylinder recorder/player like Edison's.

Victrola in movieI saw the Call Of The Wild movie that's out now, film adaptation of Jack London's famous story about the Klondike gold rush. Many people took off north to prospect for gold, including city dwellers who were not survival hardened. One guy had his family and a horn type of record player we'd know as a Victrola on their sled, and that made me laugh.. The scenes were changing, and I was trying to see if I recognized the model from what I've seen on line, but I'm not sure. If any phono enthusiast sees Call Of The Wild, look for the Victrola about a quarter of the way into the movie, they mention not to let it fall off the sled. By the way Dr. Bob, like the site update.
