Hey, y'all. Centinel here. You all know me as Radio Phvern or KE0JIT for that other radio hobby. If you go back 3 decades now you know me simply as 'Centinel' which was always my BBS handle. You can still find my handle in the Fire Escape BBS Directory that still floats around out there on Internet Archive.
In case you didn't know it, I am working on what I call Project II, or bringing Radio Phvern back on the air. Not in a hurry to do it, but progressing. It will be 1610 kHz in Saint Louis in the Bevo Neighborhood. I'm having a little more fun with it this time because I am more relaxed about it, avoiding too much perfection.

Yes, I remember seeing your name around when you started your last radio project, I remember I looked in.
Radio sites usually just express the excitement of possibilities. Promotions suggest you can just put up a transmitter and antenna and feed audio to it, and become a neighborhood broadcaster. Some might be lucky and get it right the first time, but usually you have to work at it and refine the station as you go along.
I usually advise someone to start simple, build a kit, something like you're doing with the Vectronics transmitter. Experiment with different placements and antennas, do signal checks, have fun with it, and if you decide the hobby's not for you, you're not out a lot of money.
I'd be interested to know how well the Vectronics works, as far as sound quality and stability. I've seen that transmitter available for years, but haven't found a real review about it.

Hey Centinel,
Glad to have you back in the radio game.
We all take a sabbatical from time to time for one reason or another. But, the radio spirit in us seems to persist, eventually drawing us back to it.
I remember Carl Blare mentioning your radio Phvern a few years ago. Now there's one that takes regular sabbaticals from time to time.
Anyway, glad to see you signed on here. Keep us posted on your stations progress.

I forgot to mention another starter unit someone could try, the Talking House. It's under $100, has all AM channels programmed, with antenna wire and it's easy to use. I still think kits are good, to understand the process on the transmitting side better, how audio gets added to the signal and is sent out.
Yeah, Carl Blare, I'm glad he gets mentioned here, he's the nicest, most cantankerous, radical thinking broadcaster I've seen on these boards ever.
