As you know when I was visited by the FCC for faulty FM equipment I did ask about AM and I was told that legally you can achieve 1.5-2 miles with a Car Radio or Good Radio. This does NOT mean a K-Mart special or Emerson garbage special!!!
Even Progressive Concepts and Rangemaster talk about all of this AND to boot ISS talks plenty about RANGE. What I have done to achieve more audience is to PROMOTE that Radios sold FOR US CITIZENS ARE JUNK for AM and that there is nothing wrong with AM but to avoid being defrauded by Radio manufacturers in which in order to STAMP OUT hobby broadcasting blatantly rip you off by making receivers that take up to 3-4 microvolts to receive a station. In other words on many US radios you have to be within 5-10 miles of a 100KW station to receive a station.
Then I promote Ebay is your savior but ONLY buy Tecsun, Grundig, Sangean, Carver or older Sony Radios like the SRF-A100 or CFS-A100. AM Radio does not have to sound like your talking through your nose and too there are many hidden Hobby Broadcasting stations the US entities DON'T want you to hear.
It goes on about how they can get a highly sensitive Radio that will even allow them to pick up FM stations in Stereo more than 200 miles away. And get this you can buy a Tecsun PL-380 for $50 and connect it to computer speakers or your sound bar so even if your on Welfare and get food stamps you can get a great Radio for cheap. Tell your friends and call the rockline if you have any questions.
Hammer the importance of converting a Car Radio into a Home Radio
I hammer the importance of converting a car Radio from 1987-2000 from Oldsmobile cars like a Buick. Look for that AM ST button on the Radio and then if you see one ask the junkyard owner if you can have the Radio or purchase it. I then urge them that this Radio once converted to a home Radio is well worth its weight in Gold while their friends put up with lousy reception you are happily listening to AM and FM stations further than some entities want you to.
This even brings me to the next subject FM
Yes with a lousy US mainstream market targeted market Radio your FM Transmitter will only (Legally) travel 300 FT more likely 150 FT but not on a car Radio made before the ones with the big knob in the center. Once again a realtor set up a Christmas light show and set up a certified part 15 Decade MS-100 transmitter with the FCC label (I saw it after I did a Range Check). I got that station in Mono ALBUM ROCK QUALITY for 0.9 miles. I picked it up with my Tecsun PL-380 Radio at 22-25 dbuV from the 7-eleven all the way to where I live in Deltaville. Are they illegal? NO as a matter of fact the realtor has done this for years and more years then I lived in Deltaville, VA. ad advertises this with a sign telling people to tune to 100.9 FM and the frequency is not 100% blank without a temperature inversion.
So what you do is go on your town's Facebook page and POST IT, Do a VIDEO you and your Tecsun Radio receiving stations 200 miles away or even tell folks you'll do a demo and have them meet you in a public place. I did demos right in the Sunset Grill parking lot as I was challenged by many Deltaville, VA residence who said "You can't pick up any station 200 miles away!" I laugh as their jaw drops when I tune in 100.3 WBIG in Washing, DC and tell them pick this up on your Radio. or 102.5 The Shark from the outer banks of NC tell them Go home and try this on your Radio and if your not getting it your Radio is faulty. Then tell them they can break FREE of the shackles of Top40 and Rap by purchasing one of these Radios and they not only can listen to The Legacy, but too AM stations in Canada and I tune to zuma Radio 740 AM at 6PM. This got me some listeners too. I'm well known as that Blind guy who knows his stuff!!
I'm working hard every day to educate the public on this topic and once the buzz gets out and people STOP buying these junk Radios you'll have your range without breaking one FCC rule and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The FCC don't hate Hobby Broadcasting its the interference their concerned with so by doing this your even helping the big commercial broadcasters as well. No one should be angry at you for that.
