I have it as up now, and with current info, Carl's been having transmitter problems due to a recent electrical storm.

I had the same problem with this institutional transmitter I had around 2005, a unit that would be used in rest homes and penal institutions to relay different channels of a radio service, and I got one surplus. The unit was sitting on a sill with the antenna across the sill and a close lightning strike suddenly caused it to have a very weak signal output.

Like Carl's, it has a small final transistor, littler than a grain of rice. Touching an area before the transistor gave more signal to the radio than at the output, so I concluded the final was toast.
