Connect, like the others, as per email received today requires NO license fees for a BETS-1 station and thanked me very much for explaining it to her. She did say she wanted to hear my station and give me another listener!

Thanks Mark.
So have you heard back from all the licensing bodies in Canada - SOCAN, Connect, Re:Sound and CMRRA? Did everyone confirm in writing that no fees were required for over-the-air BETS? You would of course be required to pay fees for internet streaming.

CMRRA....didn't contact them as what you said they license has nothing to do with a BETS-1 over the air station. Resound as you may remember sent an email to me(they actually knew what BETS-1 was) and said no fees are collected for this....this was early last year? But don't have the email as I long ago without thinking deleted it from the saved email folder.
Here's the email I got from Connect from the manager after I explained BETS-1 to her.....

Hi Mark,
Thank you for clarifying. This is the first I’ve heard of this type of usage so I appreciate you explaining that for me.
As you’ve predicted, it doesn’t sound like this use would fall under any of CONNECT’s licensing agreements.
The only thing I was going to suggest was to inquire about a CRTC licence, which you’ve already indicated you’d be exempt from.
So unfortunately, it doesn’t look like I can assist you any further. Except for maybe by taking a listen to your show and boosting your listener count.
Let me know how I can tune in and I’ll give it a listen!
Best of luck to you.
Regards,
Janet Turner
Licensing Manager
I replied to Janet and told her where to tune me in and where my area was and what the format was.
And as for Socan a couple of years ago it would be now I had a conversation on the phone with a representative who of course didn't know that individuals can under BETS-1 operate a very low power on air station without a license, asked a few questions such as what are your operating expenses, do you have listeners, etc and do you make money at this and the answer was none, who knows, and no, to the questions. Then said I don't know anything about this and I left him my email and I did get a reply saying we don't have any experience with BETS-1 stations and if you have no significant operating expenses I don't think any license fees are applicable as our fees are based on your yearly operating expense and we wouldn't even know what fees to collect.
I remember the email but don't have that anymore either.
It would be accurate to say that if a BETS-1 station would require license fees they would be very familiar with it, don't' you think?
I'm not even going to bother with this 4th one you mentioned
But yes streaming would require license fees and they all know what streaming is. Resound said if you were streaming they would require music license fees.
