Weird Updates for XP
One of my computers is on XP simply because it does the job, but I noticed an update request and toyed with the idea of invoking it, but recoiled because things are working fine and I don't trust Microsoft or whoever was offering the update.
It is so ugly nasty that forces work behind the scenes to screw us, deprive us, limit us and prevent us.
This whole internet thing could be golden if everyone was sincere and honest, but who is?

I thought XP was through with updates and isn't supported anymore. I hate those updates....I turn on the computer and it interferes and wants to install important updates to windows 10 and I keep saying not now and I defer it to a time but then when I turn it on again the update takes over and I can't do anything, not even turn it off and the updates take 2 hours!! Then there's a whole new look to the thing....like what was wrong before?
I can go into the setting and say update never(not recommended) and that will stop this.

I like XP a lot and the sound system works with the programs I use so well, to the point where I can't use 7 or higher, (don't know about 10), because I'll lose things like drag and scroll in a playlist, or the sound system has trouble working with older programs.
From what I know at this point, XP no longer has updates, but I've had security patches come through, not this year so far yet, I don't think.
There are some versions that are getting regular updates, those are XP-3 with POS-ready, as used in cash registers and other terminal type applications. Some people use POSready at home to get more usability out of XP.
Carl, look up this update you're being offered, to see what it is, some searching should give you some ideas if it's legitimate or not. If it's an alert coming through the browser, I'd think it's definitely not legit!

If I was you Carl, I would turn the auto update on XP off. There should be no more updates for it.

I like Linux, and have used Ubuntu, Mint and Puppy Linux at different times, not in the studio, except for the player-streamer IDJC, the Internet DJ Console, used a couple of times.
I like Jack D as a sound system, that was nice to use by intuition, but I haven't looked into Rivendell lately. At the time I turned it down over its database requirement, and that it only seemed to play mp2 and Wav files.
It was overqualified for my simple needs, a versatile player that accepts playlists and can play any audio file that has a codec installed on your system, since I get mp3, ogg, flac, aac, m4a, wav, opus, etc., plus want to be able to drop videos in, like Yu2ube downloads, and phone videos people send in formats like 3gpp, if possible.
There was also the lack of software processors in Linux. There are lots of compressors, but I couldn't find processing specific to radio's needs. Someone had put out a beta of a FM multiplex generator in software though.
