One Tends to Love What One Knows
But one is completely pre-bored by the unfamiliar.
At this moment KDX Worldround Radio is sending the Symphony No. 2 by Franz Schmidt.
Because that name is unknown it is therefore dis-interesting. Quick boredom. Yawn city.
Yet the music describes at the gut level the experience of life.
Why would anyone care about that?
The ALPB keeping the unknown apart.

I've thought about this, maybe not in your line of thinking with this post, but it's been said that the ALPB has catered more to established broadcasters in its history.
Most have operating stations already, so there are fewer newbee questions, with something to ask or to prove. I think this group attracts fewer engineering specialists who know how radio has to be done and who tend to initiate and fight with the new pups over their crimes of thinking big and of experimentation.
Maybe keeping the childish wonderment at the power of radio is a good thing, and if the ALPB has that look on its face, then I'm glad for it.

About Newbees
Boomer made this observation: "Most (ALPB members) have operating stations already, so there are fewer newbee questions."
And of course we (the ALPB) are here to assist in the building of new radio stations and the "newbee" is a person at the early stage of learning how to do it.
That makes us kind of a school run by its own students, because even those of us with functioning radio stations come up against technical problems requiring a little advice.
Our Admin is seeking to fill some leadership positions within the ALPB, one of them would be in charge of recruiting new members. That would bring the "newbees".

Taking Off the Stuffed ShirtLet's talk about another giant accomplishment in the art of music. The name is Link Wray and his Wraymen the composer and performers of the most perfect rock instrumental in the world. If you can top this just tryPlay this 24-hours a day and grab 100% market share.

#Nothing to See Here Keep Going
We are passing through a sensitive time in which women are unloading about a man problem.
The ALPB finds itself helpless in the midst of it without women members.
Something that worries me is that the women who boldly report improper man-conduct might only have one shot.
Don't you see, the old "men's club" approach will be to tag women who have more that one complaint. They will be considered "serial complainers" and debunked as male-hating femiNazis.
The foregoing is the kind of sticky issue being considered for a possible new Blare OnAir series devoted to modern day issues about radio and the surrounding universe.

Currently Playing
On my stream's "Currently Playing" generator I'm only able to manually type one line, and since Friday it has said "Memorial Weekend".
But this morning I got to thinking and realized that most of the world would have no clue what that was supposed to mean, so I changed it to "Regular Schedule".
We tend to think parochially from the standpoint of our immediate life, and the U.S. takes an incestual position against internationalism, earning us the names bumpkin and yokel.
A little cosmopolitanism might help us.

Two Ideas to Beat Boredom
Two oldies but goodies here at KDX are going to make a come-back...
In years gone by we had an outdoor microphone that we broadcast live for real sounds of the city streets. This will be back on the air very soon.
And we will again patch blank radio frequencies live so you can discover what is being heard at our location on such channels as 1710 kHz, 87.7 MHz, and 13.560 MHz.
Hold your breath.

First exposure to "Rumble" was "it might get loud" in 2008 - Found a really beat up 45 copy at the thrift store and plain wore it out. Would like to buy or acquire a really clean version. SP

Carl, I doubt that I would be operating a Part15 station today without the help that I received here from the members of the ALPB (including you) as well as all the great info stored on thealpb.com. I googled everything I could find, also joined Part15.us and hobbybroadcaster.net. I learned a little from Part15.us but the info just didn't seem to come as quickly or freely from there as from ALPB, and as far as hobbybroadcaster.net, I seemed to get booted from the site within 2-3 weeks for reasons I know not why, as I had not even made a post there before I was kicked out and received no responses when I attempted to re-join. i have been observing the webmaster over there from the outside for years. i have been in the mental health system since i was 5 both as a patient and a worker. i have longtime experience with mental health but no formal training. IMHO the webmaster over there has some kind of mental health issue. not sure what exactly but there is definitely something mental health wise going on there that needs treatment and i have noticed it appears to be getting worse as the years go on. there seems to be a lot of people in this day and age (way more than i remember as a kid) with untreated mental health issues. it sure would explain a lot of his behavior i have observed over the course of nearly a decade. I seemed to get booted from the site within 2-3 weeks for reasons I know not why, as I had not even made a post there before I was kicked out and received no responses when I attempted to re-join.

Ward 15
Part15Engineer observation from experience: "There seem to be a lot of people in this day and age (way more than i remember as a kid) with untreated mental health issues."
It's definitely true, and only a few days ago Druid Hills posted a quote by Kurt Vonneget addressing the same thing... as I recall Mr. Vonneget attributes the decline in mental health to "living on the internet like spirits" rather than having real-life social contact with other people.
It's even worse now than it ever was because people have mini-computers in their hands that they stare at all day and never come up to breath.
The only choice we have is that we must try to remain as distant as possible and not get drawn into a clash.

I choose to spend my weekends interacting with people (in-person) at a museum. It's astounding who you meet and what you can learn from them....

I don't think it's mental health issues. It is my opinion the man is a complete idiot with delusions of grandeur. Let him have his little club!

DougAnd I suspect that it is a VERY LITTLE club! THEALPB.COM is the real organization for Hobby Broadcasters!
