The acronym FM Has Several Meanings
We all know Frequency Modulation.
But FM can also mean Foreign Minister or Finance Minister.
I am the FM for KDX Radio... the Friendly Man.

FM, as well as AM, were types of musical instruments, keyboard synthesizers. I think FM was a buzz word in synthesizers at around the same time as it was for radio.
PM can mean phase modulation, as well as Prime Minister.
I propose that all Part-15 AM stations are now eligible to have an FM translator, like full power AM stations. With the small power allowed on FM right now, the coverage should be proportionally the same as when an AM station gets their FM repeater, just measured in feet or meters instead of miles.

Very much like what you describe, I am planning on having an FM repeater for my new KHZ AM 1640 radio station, which will show up on 106.9 MHz, I even worked out a repeater call sign for it.
This hobby comes very close to being fun at times.

FM Failing morons. The FCC are failing morons for allowing all the AM translators on the FM band only to cause interference to high powered commercial FM stations.
