All Stations Serve a Niche and KDX Serves AtheistsAccording to stats from the Freedom From Religion Foundation the number of non-believers is growing rapidly and will soon reach 33% of all so-called "Americans" (people living in the Homeland). But most radio is dominated by Christian dogma, in violation of the Constitutional Separation of Church and State (licenses are Federally controlled), the dominant message of religious and right-wing secular stations being assertively anti-atheist. Even here at the ALPB while discussions of music recalled from grade school are warmly encouraged as programming topics, KDX has systematically been discouraged from posting about the intellectually higher level of programming for free thinkers and the controversies faced by news-talk radio. I'm sure the ALPB never set out to become a fundamentalist Christian organization, but perhaps the tendency is ingrained in the way ordinary people think. The linked article serves to further illuminate the subject. Illuminations On the Subject

Carl brings to attention the government which is supposed to uphold the constitution, tells us that federally licensed and regulated radio stations are allowed to have a "Christian" agenda which is unconstitutional?
I'm not surprised as governments seem to not have to abide by their own laws as many examples can be found, not just in the US but other places too. Schools are also government provided and regulated and how come in public schools religion is in the agenda? Why do you have to say the Lords prayer in the morning? Or has this been abolished yet? Here in Ontario this was abolished a long time ago. What if you are not Christian? Even here(Canada) there are "Christian" based stations.

The Word According to Mark
Mark has correctly noted: "How come in public schools religion is in the agenda? Why do you have to say the Lords prayer in the morning? Or has this been abolished yet?"
The sane part of society has been trying to abolish religion in public schools for years, and courts have abolished it, but the ghoul keeps rising from the dead and public schools all over have prayers, worship, Bible studies. The newscasts carried on KDX cover this problem constantly.
The backlash by Christians includes death threats, vandalism, banishment to the non-believers. Religion fosters more hate crimes than any other source and they do it secretly so as not to be seen, sort of like "spirits".
I think Canada has quietly and politely advanced while the U.S. is in a backslide toward righteous zealotry.
Radio stations have a, er, um, sacred obligation to be aware of these community issues.

Don't Be a Silly Goose
Druid Hills says: "Carl: Show me in the Constitution about Separation of Church and State?"
The better choice for you would be a reference librarian of your employer.

However
Not all of our readers have reference librarians (so far as they know) so perhaps I should weigh in after all.
Of course the concept of separating religion and secular government is handled very briskly in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution, and is built upon words expressed by Thomas Jefferson, a participating author:
The legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof", thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. -- Thomas Jefferson
[This Jefferson quote is taken from Wikipedia - Creative Commons]
In our time fundamentalist christians promote the false notion that the Nation is founded on christian principles, but this is am intentional lie as an attempt to distort the Federal Government into a theocracy.
As a public service we tell you that public libraries have free reference librarians! Your grade school forgot to tell you.

But you're free to believe what you want. No wall there. I do agree with your comment about the nation not being founded on Christian principles. Not freedom of religion, but freedom from religion.

Agreement at the Top
Druid Hills sometimes comes down from the hills... "I do agree with your comment about..."
And I agree with your agreement with me.
