You know it's something most of us when we were kids would love to hear, No School in "insert country/city name" and it was usually on the tv and radio that we heard the happy news.
As some of you know already, much of the states East of the Mississippi are bracing themselves for snow and as a parent, i could relate to my kids getting a snow day. This morning I tuned into the Perry County Board of Education 2 way radio frequency to see if they would announce No School in Perry County Today and sure enough they called it off. Not once but several times.
Meanwhile, the local tv station (notice i said one) has about 4 or 5 counties surrounding us listed as closed or delayed but not Perry County.
At about 6 a.m. I decided to go on the t.v. stations Facebook page and private messaged who ever might be paying attention to inform them to call the board of education to confirm that there is No School in our county today and that i heard this over a scanner tuned to the bus channel.
A minute later, bam ! they finally post the closing for our county. Meanwhile the sister station to our local station some 80+ miles away in Lexington Ky has a list of closings and delays a mile long.
Now i wonder even with my little signal if i should just use my trusty scanner and announce school closings for my road??
Couldn't hurt, it certainly would be faster than waiting until the kids are all dressed waiting for a bus that will never come or that late post of the tv website.
Makes you think huh? Hunker down and if you have a tube type radio or transmitter, fire that baby up , it's getting colder outside.
