CenturyLink is one of the companies that we do wholesale business with. By "we" I mean my former employer does business with on a wholesale basis. CL creates a "presence" by leasing space in a data center in a particular market, then they would contract with "us", my former employer, to provide them with a big pipe and then have us serve their "local customers" through our network. IMO my former employer was doing nothing wrong, just increasing our revenue with relationships like this, but for the customers, who think they are CL customers, and legally they are, I think the arrangement is less than forthright as the customers think it is CL providing their services when in reality it is not. On a few occasions I have actually had my field engineers denied access to a customer premise because the customer would say that they purchased service from CL, not from us, leading to an awkward, uncomfortable situation.
