It Happened in 1984Spotting a newspaper story about a string of retired Amtrak passenger cars for sale at $3,000 each, my girl friend and I toured the train cars in the downtown rail yard with thoughts of putting a radio studio in train cars. People who live on restored passenger cars have their own magazine called "Private Varnish", and we read that restoring the train cars to rail industry standards costs more than $250,000 per car, so we postponed the idea. That's hilarious, I had no ideas something like that was going on, and it's a hobby. Yes I'd imagine there would be wild parties on those trains!
It made me think of the crew at WBCQ shortwave who have transmitters operating from storage trailers and school buses to hold spare parts.
Have you heard of Red Caboose radio, it ran as a promotion at a shopping center from a parked train caboose attraction.
