Ever since radio broadcasters began putting their radio studios on webcams I've been watching closely to think about ways of viewing radio.
What I see is a very animated camera that not only pans, tilts and zooms, but also lifts up or dives down or flies sideways with fast or slow movement. A camera should be able to frame a front-view of a disc jockey and fly in a smooth circle for a back view, looking across the DJ's shoulder toward his guest on the other side of the table.
All of these moves are possible with technology developed by the movie, television and security industries, but trained camera operators are still necessary because it's very much a manual specialty.
What we need is the top model railroad hobbyists to come in and develop mag-lev (magnetic levitation) tracks installed above head-level so the camera can "float" on a magnetic track circling the studio.
The radio board operator should have a simplified control panel to instruct the camera what to do.
The final touch will be to have the ALPB purchase the name "Radio Flyer" from the old toy wagon company.

Up Here In the Air
Running across this "flying camera" idea it suddenly occurs to me that I must have been anticipating the drone back when I wrote the piece.
Like 4-roter helicopters, drones provide the ultimate in camera movement, but not so fast.
Would you be comfortable sitting at the microphone with a drone whizzing around above your head?
And what about the noise they make. They haven't made silent drones yet, have they?
Keep coming up with ideas.

My son gave me a drone for fathers day. A small one, the blades are about 4" diameter spaced about 12" apart. It's actually fairly quiet. Once it's up you hardly notice it. Here is a clip of my FIRST FLIGHT . Right-Click on the link and save the file. Then you can open with Windows Media Player or other.
A couple rough landings but no damage.
The video looks pretty good considering. This video clip is compressed to save file size so the quality is much reduced.

Here's the Crazy Thing
To give some idea how tired I am after a long day I watched the video twice using VLC Player and couldn't figure out why I could never catch a glimpse of the drone.
Oh, you know why? It's a camera drone! The drone is flying around showing what it can see but it can't see itself!
It's harder to be smart than it used to be.
Nice machine!

The only glimpse is that of a shadow of the craft on me after the first hard landing when I pick it up for relaunch.
