I'm not going to attach individuals to ideas, but want to document what was thrown 'out there'. Please note that there was a lot of duplication, and this is my attempt to summarize the salient points. All those who attended, and feel I've missed something, or have misrepresented a point of view, are welcome to throw in their 2 cents.
- All felt that our mission statement still is relevant and desirable
- Many were open to adding to our mission statement, and therefore, our activities
- Some were more cautious, suggesting that we needed to run and grow slowly, and perhaps not worry about growth. Concerns were raised re time commitments
- Some felt that we should get more involved with FCC lobbying
- It was pointed out that lobbying had been rejected in the past, although that is obviously now open to debate
- It was also pointed out that the FCC is not relevant to international members. Some felt that there was too much emphasis on the FCC
- Many members liked the social aspects of the Teamspeak meetings, and felt it led to greater trust
- Many, however, felt these meetings were too long, and accomplished too little. Some felt that there were too many meetings
- Most liked the idea of using the Forum more for business activities, but it was unclear as to exactly how to do that
- Several felt that we needed to at least make our organizational structure clearer. There were suggestions about changing it
- Most felt that we needed to differentiate ourselves from the other Part 15/low power broadcasting forums and websites that currently exist
The most positive aspect of the discussions was that overall, there was a lot of agreement.
There was free form discussion at the conclusion of the roundtable, and out of that arose the motion to attempt to move the business of the ALPB to the Forum. That is now in progress, and is, in fact, a work in progress. We're not sure how it's going to work out, so bear with us. It's an attempt to involve more of the membership in ALPB activities, while still keeping the twice monthly meetings intact.
Obviously, more work has to be done surrounding the organizational structure of the ALPB, and most importantly, electing a new Chairman. That will be the first order of business in the new ALPB Business Board.
