Communications as a Sales Tool
You are now reading me. A moment ago you were briefly excited because something new is posted here for you to read. And the thrill will end any second now when you realize you are bored and want to move on to some new attraction. But I'm not going to make it easy for you because you are my audience right now and I've had the exits sealed so you can't leave.
What do you think it's all about? No, I don't mean "life". We know what life's about, and it actually is boring. What we're talking about is this forum site, the whole hobby. This radio hobby wherein we transmit programs into the air; The "audience" that we envision sitting there listening to our fantastic taste in playing the exact music formula better than any of the 67,307 other music stations in the universe. It's a dream audience.
That's not a joke. Most low power hobby stations have a dream audience that is projected straight out of the imagination. We are the radio station of the dreams of the dream audience. A two-way dream.
But right now, you are the reading audience and I am the writer speaking to you with little alphabets and you are no dream.
Reaching a dream audience is easy because they love everything you play on the station and always admire the way your bass is exactly the right amount.
However, writing to real readers isn't quite so easy because you are ready like a mouse-trap to snap back into a characteristically bored state in the never-ending quest for something newer and fresher.
I once served a dream audience, the ones who wanted my kind of music. But then I met them and we had disagreements. They wanted the same kind of music but in a different sequence. My playlist wasn't what they were looking for. I had no interest whatsoever in their opinions so we stopped communicating.
The same thing is happening right here and right now.
