I got nosy and pulled the FCC information on WRPK 100.1 in which was granted an FCC license in Kilmarnock, VA on November 2017 but has not gone on air. John said that his technician had health issues and he was looking for interested folks to join him in his LPFM Radio project for WRPK.
I told him about The Legacy and our eclectic Album Rock format. He was interested as well as the Barix Box idea to feed the station from Internet Radio software such as the software I use to the Transmitter at a higher location to cover his intended contour.
If his project goes off and we are able to join with him (and he seems vary interested as he told me to definitely stay in contact) we will be LEGALLY broadcasting Album Rock for 20 miles to a Good Radio as he has 72 Watts of power so this should be sounding great once finished here in Deltaville, VA.
The Legacy will still need donations to help with this LPFM project but this would be my first chance at a BIG boy station since 1979 when I worked for WOCR in Olivet, Michigan. I always wanted RANGE well this could be the answer to my pipe dream I've had to DJ this eclectic format once again. Wish us luck in this driving effort to achieve this and maybe learn from it as well. I'll need to brush up and learn more about audio processing and mixer skills if I am asked to go to the studio for hands on studio work.
Bob has inspired me as well as Anthony who's both have plenty of experience at LPFM. See doing your homework can often help you graduate from a Flycaster.

Great The Lagacy, I hope it comes to pass, and if so, don't leave us here in Part-15 land, you'll probably have good info to share. Anyone with an interest in Part-15 and avenues beyond it would do well to check the FCC's database for LPFM stations in their area, to see if there might be stations nearby that they could get involved with. I've done searches for LPFM listings and hadn't been able to find any really good ones, but just today Tha Dood forwarded links to the LPFM database at the FCC's own site, which had not come up in search for me. www.fcc.gov/media/radio/lpfmTha Dood says: "Scroll down to the pink boxed LPFM REPORT, select the state ya want, and there ya go." You'll get a table of stations, their city location, push-pin map of antenna site and status of the station. I believe that staying focused and informed on your interest area can lead to opportunities and other great things happening. Even when it seems like you're up against limitations in this form of radio, keep at it! Boomerton, like Paddington or reggaeton.

I will definitely keep you all informed as you all know we tried with an FM initiative around June 5th 2015 and due to the fact that this station was coming on the only frequency we would have to use I decided (with the urgency of Station8 behind me) to pull the information from the FCC database and contact someone and I am glad I had met some folks who wanted to teach me and to help re acquaint me with a Real FM station once again.
For many of you this may be your only hope to have your show see the FM spectrum band with some Range! so now instead of an FM initiative I' m working towards something that I won't just be spinning wheels at. If this works out I may revamp my site to talk about LPFM and how this can work with Hobby Broadcasting. I've not totally killed the Elite section as I was thinking of an AM initiative but now I really need to focus on learning about Auto processing and mixing once again.
There could be a time that I'm wanted at the studio so now I need to try and sell myself even though I'm a little nervous. This is expensive equipment and I don't want to screw anyting up as this man has poured his soul into this. However since I've done some work before I think I can handle it. Maybe he could put the transmitter on a dummy load and allow me to learn and test things with him.
I don't know why he doesn't just go on air unless the technical issues have to do with a bad TX or antenna as he said it didn't get out far I'm thinking its the location of the antenna and not the equipment itself. I'm sure a check list must be done to be sure this is the case but 30 feet is not much higher than my FM antenna is and thus explains why his range sucked wind at 72 Watts.

Great Possibilities
TheLegacy's good news: "I always wanted RANGE well this could be the answer to my pipe dream I've had to DJ this eclectic format once again."
You sure deserve a giant breakthrough, TheLegacy. You have consistently and persistently pushed for something more in the way of range to reach an audience for your brand of radio, and it is so right that something should come your way.
And your many friends deserve credit too for staying with you and helping form the vision you promote, including Station8, Atrain Radio and MRAM1500 (as well as the whole ALPB)!

That is surly right. I also mention Bob Mram 1500. I should look up his Email and see if John could use some advice from him to get the station off and running.
And A train has always been a role model I follow. Yup the waiting is the hardest part.

DHR Responds: Just to note: 72 watts will not deliver a a quality signal (60 dBuV) more than 3 to 5 miles from the antenna location. Attachments:

Shoot, even 250 watts at 96 meters doesn't get out much better than 15 miles when skip is acting up or if there are adjacent channels. LPFMs are designed to cover about 3-5 Miles, maybe 10.

His range would be the same if he went higher with the antenna. His power would have to come down accordingly to create the same 60 dBuV contour.
