That page made my CPU fan start to spin up, like it was at the starting line, waiting for the flag..
Certainly a nice explanation, and I have been into wi-fi for a long time, access points on different levels for good signals in every room, it's great tech, doing so much number crunching to resend and repair damaged transmissions and encoding/decoding serialized packets, handshake protocol, preamble, and negotiating a variety of data speeds depending on how good the communications channel is.
We deal with AM and FM mostly here, but wi-fi is way above that in tech sophistication, and yet it's a humble thing that people use all the time without thinking about it.
Maybe this relates to the earlier problem you were talking about Carl, where there isn't a lot of engineering talent producing kits for builders in hobby radio. To the technicians of the world working now, on current ideas like wi-fi, 4G, Wimax, Bluetooth etc., broadcast radio must seem like a hopeless antique!

I spent a couple years evaluating wireless solutions for my employer before we pulled the trigger on large scale WIFI implementation and I only wish I was smart enough to design, not evaluate, such systems. |
