We all know that the C. Crane FM2 adjusted to max legal (maybe with someone's help with a FIM 71) can get some good range. That or the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0. That in mind I had a great idea to promote my station and wondered if anyone else has ever tried this:
1. Make a sign with your stations name and frequency you intend to transmit on along with format and website to listen on the Internet.
2. While your riding in the car or parked and shopping for a bit have your smartphone connected to your transmitter and leave it in the car with the sign in the back. You could tell your audience to tune to that frequency to hear your station and if they like it they could tune in via the net. Now if you have LiveWebDJ and some tunes loaded you could even play requests made by nearby drivers going to the same place your going. Park in front of Walmart or in back by the electronics department. Now tune in your station on one of their display Radio's and have it just loud enough where people may hear the station while they check out that new boom box. This again could gain attention to your station and gain local listeners. If you are traveling a long distance this could really work while you stop to eat at the restaurant and thus folks nearby will hear your station. If you stay overnight somewhere at a motel man this is a great way to promote your station too. Anywhere that there are blank frequencies to transmit on and where there are nearby folks wanting to hear great Album Rock for example would tune in. I wonder how this would work and if it works good I'd like to find someone who could make a great sign so I could try it. May be worth the investment.
