What About These Other Ideas
Perhaps the giant HAARP antenna array up in Alaska would be capable of emitting a terrestrial EMP by using ultra-high power?
Maybe an ordinary radio/TV station could wipe out electronics within a limited local range by transmitting a strong BURST. It would probably be electronic suicide because the sending station would be destroyed by its own PULSE.
I once connected a loudspeaker voice-coil to 110 VAC and it went POW!
There was a whiff of hellish sulfur and the loudspeaker became a casualty of war.

I almost got electrocuted when I tried attach a pair of 2000 ohm headphones to an old radio that used a huge electromagnet as the filter choke for the power supply. First a hellish buzz followed my be taking the phones off but touching the nuts that held the wires to the headphones. What a mess.

Land Mines for the Hand
DHR lived to talk about it: "I almost got electrocuted when I tried attach a pair of 2000 ohm headphones to an old radio that used a huge electromagnet as the filter choke for the power supply."
Those old-style electromagnets were one of the all-time safety hazards of consumer electronics, along with chassis connected to one side of the AC line and large-capacitors on the 500-Volt supply..
It's a wonder any of us old-timers are still here.

Probably because we knew what we were dealing with.
