I Know What's Wrong But I Don't Know How To Fix It
Plenty of splendid hobby radio knowledge and intelligence has been poured into countless threads both here and the other low power forum, all sunk into digital depths thousands of feet below search engines.
We continuously start again re-talking the same rules and projects and experience because we are seldom able to locate past efforts.
What I want to see is a library of documents that update and edit themselves on every topic and discovery about hobby radio. But morning dawns and it was only a dream.
Here we go again, down the sinkhole into digital yesterdays below floors and under foot.

I've thought about this for a while, there's great knowledge on the sites, but it gets buried asunder, and someone with a question has to know what to ask the search, and how. It's a problem with any board that holds timeless and factual information and opinions. If a site is just light chatter about topics of the day, it probably wouldn't matter as much.
I think this problem with forums is one of the reasons Wiki was created, contribution by members, but with more static pages that hope to offer state-of-the-art facts by committee, the straight dope.
What I've thought is various topics that are the foundation of Part-15 questions could be made into static web pages, with easy to find links. Top Hats, loading coils, reviews on various transmitters and other things. The site would need a curator to bring it all together, and certainly it would take an effort to be that sort of researcher and editor.
Then there's the social element that comes into play, a question, even about a common topic, can be one's introduction to the group. With a worthy library right there, that could take away some of the need to step up and ask questions. There might be less tension for new people with wild ideas coming in and getting pounced, and that would be good, and it could take out some of the bite from people who interpret the rules sternly, looking down their nose at the student, but then what would people ask, would it be just light duty things like the color code for a resistor they have?
Something should be done, there's valuable knowledge there, but it can be messy to find. I had trouble when looking up something about Carrier Current, too many articles, and a 'Carrier current journal' that went on for 20 pages! That's like reading a book, but without an index.

Meet Our New Curator
Boomer modestly said: "I've thought about this for a while."
Your description of the index-search problem on forums is of scholarly quality and you should be the ALPB curator! If I had the power to hand out titles it would be yours.

Maybe we should bring this up at Tonight's ALPB Meeting! We have always wanted to have an organized place to look up many subjects dealing with the aspect of the hobby. The ALPB has talked many times about our How To Do It section of the group's website.
Carrier Current AM TXing This is something many of us can do in areas whereas we're limited as far as Antenna space and may not be able to set up elaborate ground radials in order to have a 1-2 mile range. It would be nice to start a project that could help Handicapped and Visually Impaired folks to safely be able to transmit using this technology.
Reading about the WiFi carrier current method where the signal only went from one end of the house and barely could cover the other we need to find out what frequency that power line device transmits on. We can hope to get the range of the entire power line grid as long as there is only one transformer. Deltaville, VA has one power company and its just past the Deltaville Market. Looking at this I should be able to transmit on that side of the road all the way there.
Sunset Grill however may have a separate power line so the listeners would not hear my signal over in that direction. However getting to know the manager at the bar and grill it may be possible to install another carrier current transmitter and have it connected to my Internet station. The bar plays Progressive Rock and Classic Rock with SOME COUNTRY. New Riders Of The Purple Sage, CCR, Charlie Daniels band would fit and The Legacy could legally transmit AM with a far better and stable signal on AM Carrier Current if it was easy for a Legally Blind Man.
How about trying to get Transmitter Manufacturers to make a Carrier Current version of a Talking House. For that matter The Talking House has a 75 Ohm jack on it. That can be connected to an amplifier and a home made Carrier Current coupler. Asking ISS to start manufacturing a Carrier Current all in one box for the TH5/iAM Transmitter may be something we could do as a group of people. Maybe just as the Big Talker was born something like this could also be made.
