Sounds more like the writer had a terrible radio experience, the station and cluster I work for is nothing like what the author describes. (It is pretty close to how corporate radio can be)
I can vouch however that the building is pretty darn empty when I'm not there, the pay is crap, and I have several duties beyond my airshift. But radio has always been like that.
It is also very spot on in regards to air talent, DJ's can be some of the worst people on earth to deal with. Huge egos tend to get in the way, paired with an equally large bout of laziness. Not to say all DJs are that way, many of them are great people but many of them are awful and on something.

Good Description of the DJ Type
Mighty 1650 sure knows his DJs: "Huge egos tend to get in the way, paired with an equally large bout of laziness."
That is so accurate.
I realize Mighty is not speaking personally about me.

Funny stuff. Reminds me of a station/owner who was hitting up staff and friends of staff for weed. Spent much of his time surfing porn sites on the station pc that was used for running automation. Then one day.....oops. Later arrested for perv related activities.

To add to the article, stations don't have a DJ in the studio with a stack of records and two turntables...stations don't even have a record library but get the programming on what plays from an outside source and I know for a fact that a station in the town of Huntsville, about a 21/2 hour drive north of Toronto gets their music from Texas! Even the 30% Canadian content.
