Yes I have posted about this in the past for AM and FM too and this would help us out, as if the receiver is better, our over the air signal will get farther. With FM the big problem with average radios is the strong stations image all over and block out the weaker ones and with AM just lousy sensitivity and selectivity. There's good receivers to be had but why not have a standard that ANY radio has to meet?
As the article says this was done in the past so why not now? Example, I can take a lousy radio and hold it 1 foot away from my Decade MS-100 antenna and everything is wiped off the band and replaced by the Decade's signal but then I take another radio like my Sony ICF-506(available everywhere) and it doesn't do this at all so better radios can be made and still not cost a lot.
