An Editorial Opinion Essay by Carl Blare title: REVERSE PAYOLA
Payola is a word describing illegal payments by the music industry made to broadcasters to promote records through air play without disclosing the sponsorship, as required by the FCC. Payola gave the music industry a criminal background but proved absolutely that radio play promotes songs and artists into fame and popularity.
Today, in 2015, a more insidious scheme has been implemented by which broadcasters are required by law to pay the music industry for the right to promote music recordings through airplay. This practice is called reverse payola.

That whole concept where the music industry bites the hand that feeds is totally wrong. I can't imagine how the notion even got started, but it sure is racketeering at its best.
