Good article. However, the talk of a TIVO-like service was a bit misleading, I believe. Whether you're capturing the data in a proprietary format (such as PlayOn) or just an .avi (or whatever) file, you're still making a persistent copy of the data. That takes you out of the realm of streaming, and into reproduction/mechanical rights, and the industry has fought long and hard to stop digital copying.

I wonder if in the future, when Star Trek replicators are perfected, will everything have to be licensed?
After all, if I can replicate something I'd never need to pay for it again.
Licensing everything, I'd have to pay a fee to replicate something. There goes the family...
