I don't always look at these where it's just the link, but that's good click bait, since I have a Talking House, version 2 or 3.
I did look at the page, and it seems like they're bringing back a classic, or it never left? There's no real explanation, just that it looks like these are new, and they're back to selling entry level models.
"Until June 2017, Radio Systems, Inc., marketed a modified version of the Talking House Transmitter under the name i A.M. Radio. Our offering does not include any such modifications."
Maybe the TH 5.0 never left, I constantly see them on auction sites, could the company have been selling through third parties? In any case, it seems like good news for the entry level market, there really isn't a ready-to-go, frequency locked transmitter in this price range.
It's cool, it bodes well for the low power home radio hobby that the company sees a market here, it shows they think there's a continuing interest in Part-15 AM.

This is really good news because it could spark a flood of other manufacturers to start lowering their prices for AM transmitters as well. At least then it would compete with the barrage of FM transmitters readily available on the market as in comparison with the AM ones.

I think that's highly improbable, Talking Houses have always been inexpensive by comparison to other certified AM transmitters, they've always been mass produced for one thing.. You're not going to see Rangemasters or Procasters lowering prices to compete with them, because they are a completely different league of craftsmanship and quality. You get what you pay for.
Nevertheless, I am considering getting one just to experiment with because the price, it's well worth that.

Seems the price reflects the fact that it is inferior to the other AM transmitters and they are not offering the enchanced version any more with the better audio.

Well, many have confirmed that the 5.0 version (which this $49 one is) produces the highest quality audio of any other version until they released the original iAM (what.. a year or two ago?).. Now they have apparently, or maybe just temporarily discontinued the modified version - which in actuality this 5.0 is the base of.
I'm guessing they just have a huge surplus of them and wish to recover their manufacturing cost before maybe coming out with a more premium product -- of course I have no way of knowing why they are unloading them so cheaply, but certainly they can't possibly be making a profit at that price... or so it wouldn't seem so.

You do get what you pay for.
I've owned numerous Talking House 5's. A couple worked just fine, with not so great audio. A couple didn't work at all (although supposedly new). And one had a range of about the length of my deck (and it wasn't a big deck).
When they work, they're fine. The issue I have with them is the quality control, perhaps a result of that mass production. If you get a warranty with one, I'd go for it at that price (although I never paid more than $50 for any of the ones I purchased - new - on e-bay).
