Well here it is again, time for The ALPB TeamSpeak meeting of June 3rd, 2017 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. Meetings are always the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. My life has been very busy for the last several months which has really put a crimp on my participation. Hopefully things are finally going to slow down a little. It's an old story but it seems everyone is just too concerned about NOUO's for one reason or another. I believe most of us try to stay within the guidelines of our regulatory agencies. Conversations along these lines always seem to lead to arguments; long grounds, non-compliant FM systems, music licensing. It would be nice to get back to simply using what we have and having fun. Not to say rules don't matter, just sayin' too many worry too much. Join us this Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 for some license free low power broadcasting conversation. Not a member yet? Why not? Visit TheALPB.com, click the "CONTACT' button and let me know you'd like to join us. It's easy, simple and FREE.

Ideas Going Forward
The ALPB has been a total success from Day 1.
The ALPB is the only such organization for low power radio broadcasting in the world under the rules of various countries.
One benefit of belonging to the ALPB is direct sharing of technical and programming information for radio stations.
Having spent a moment reading about Trump University, now defunct, it occurs to us that perhaps we could open ALPB University to reflect the educational nature of our activity.
There could be official diplomas and professorships.
This idea is underwritten by pipes. Without pipes how would water get to the house? Yes, we owe a lot to round, metal pipes. No one has found a better way.

Maybe as a suggestion, since the ALPB forum accommodates discussion under the rules of other countries and not just part 15 this could be stated somehow in the official title of the forum....just a thought.
But if I talk about FM broadcasting under BETS-1, I now add a little disclaimer with my post especially at part15.us, that I'm not in the USA and encourage all US residents to follow part 15 guidelines.

The Name of the ALPB
Mark suggests: "Maybe as a suggestion, since the ALPB forum accommodates discussion under the rules of other countries and not just part 15 this could be stated somehow in the official title of the forum."
One of the most difficult hurdles when the original meetings were held was arriving at a name that everybody agreed to. That did not happen.
A majority vote finally made us "The Association of Low Power Broadcasters" after having several other names for awhile. Some of the earliest members still occasionally express their lack of satisfaction with the name we have.
A few weeks ago I considered proposing we change the name to
The International Association of Low Power Broadcasters.
But I kept my mouth shut because that's such a long name it wouldn't fit up above on our masthead.
Even with all that, any member is welcome to propose a change at any time and a serious discussion will follow to see if we can get enough votes.
Mark, you're a member, I'm pretty sure, as I think the latest thing is that all members of the Forum are automatically full ALPB Members. If I got that wrong someone will correct me.
Try coming up with a name that you think fits the organization and see if you find that an easy thing to do.

I think the basic problem with all the rule discussions is that there is a huge disconnect between what the actual rules are and what some people want those rules to be. This causes confusion, particularly to relatively new broadcasters, and in many cases, conflict.
I think that the ALPB at its best is when people are discussing 'doing' radio. It's certainly when I enjoy it the most, in any event.
The fact that it is international in scope is an added bonus.

Glad to see you Admin, I heard your station once when a friend and me went to the Chapel Hill Mall to tour it, and found there was a Part-15 station nearby. I was new to getting into small radio at that time.
Re: those range and transmitter grounding discussions, so ugly, toxic and I'm a wimp, and take a leave of absence from reading a whole site for a while when I see that stuff, one reason to be here because it's minimal at ALPB right now.
I consider myself a post modern hacker and maker, and there's no time for that bull.
One day I'll get Team and come to one of these meetings, they seem like fun!

I agree. I find it sad that there appear to be topics upon which respect and reason gets thrown out the door, and person years of analysis, research and experience gets ignored to be replaced by personal opinion.
I am always open to new ideas and concepts, as I'm sure most others are. But I believe that tangible and substantial proof has to be offered up BEFORE someone suggests replacing prevailing thought. That is, after all, the scientific method.

Historic Sketch of the ALPB
The Association of Low Power Broadcasters will be 5 Years Old on August 31st.
The Organization was begun based on an idea by Lefty Gomez AKA Joe Martinez, 1st Chairman.
The original name was National Association of Low Power Broadcasters.
The 1st Meeting was held Friday, August 31, 2012, 7 PM EDT.
Bob Felmly, MRAM 1500, was shortly named Chairman at the wish of Joe Martinez.
The upcoming Meeting, Saturday June 3, 2017, will be the 113th Meeting.
To become a member follow the guidelines on the ALPB Homepage.

It's just that all of the personalities come out to argue, and it gets ugly, people at their worst, like being on public transportation and a section of the bus gets into a big argument and you're not involved, but it's loud threatening and you're right there.
I just don't need it, I'm just trying to do something positive with radio in my local community, learn and have a little fun.
Carl, I didn't know how the ALPB was formed, but I've seen the name Lefty Gomez around the web before, his star must have risen before I got on to radio sites and really started to read, so thanks to him and you other people.

Planning for Gender
That doesn't sound right.
Oh, I meant "planning an agenda".
The overall Agenda is planned by the Chairman, but individual members are always welcome to bring anything to the attention of the group for discussion.
Tonight, since we found out we're almost 5-Years Old, I am going to recommend that we "Review Our Assets.
No, the ALPB has no cash but our virtual assets include:
- The Association of Low Power Broadcasters itself, including Charter and Membership;
- The ALPB Web Site with it's rich treasure trove of low power resources;
- The ALPB Forums which have become the World's 2nd Most Popular Low Power Radio Forum after part15_us;
- The ALPB Facebook Page which was opened by Atrain Radio and now under the supervision of TheLegacy;
- A Partnership with Part15_us from which the ALPB sprung.
