Well, this shows that radio is still alive and well. Good for us. For the minority that don't listen to radio I think 2 things are the main reason.... A few songs and 5 minutes of commercials or not liking what radio plays, especially if you grew up in North America and you are over 60, but radio doesn't care about that anyways.
This where part 15, BETS-1 comes in to the picture. To get that audience that commercial radio ignores. Even on a very small scale.
I agree with listening for a personality as I used to pick a station with a DJ I liked.

Radio At the Top
That study is impressive for all the specific detail it presents, and how appropriate that radio is the top of the pyramid.
Perhaps later I might come back with a point by point comment about the many issues mentioned in the study, but now would be a good time for a sardine break.

Great story. I like how some people reported that they listen to less Radio because of the repetition. Still people like the local feel to it. This is where Hobby Radio can come in. I got two calls from people who heard my station. The first person said that he heard a song that was never played in years so he tuned in. Later as he listened he heard the Hobby Radio promo I do on my station. He told me what a wonderful job I was doing and has kept his Radio on my station since.
Another trucker was parked while delivering to a store he drove for. He was fiddling with his Radio and came across my station and could not tune away from it. When he heard my request line promo and Hobby Radio promo he called me and wanted my website so he could listen while he traveled. He asked about smartphones and carriers to get. I told him either Verozon with 10-20 GB data a month or Cricket with 20 GB and to get a good phone like a Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy 8, Motorola Z Droid, or something that has good sound and to plug it into his AUX jack or to get some nice Bluetooth speakers.
I may have saved him hundreds of dollars a year on Satellite Radio when my station competes with Stevie's Underground on Satellite Radio.

That's a very encouraging report! I was surprised at the amount of folks gave the same reason that I would have given "Even radio’s reliability as an effective communicator made the list. Respondents said the main reason they listened to radio was for emergency information (33%), followed by weather and traffic at (27 and 24%).
