Part 15 Was There First
Part 15 radio stations started broadcasting from closets, un-made bedrooms, attics and basements from the very beginning in the 1930s.
Only in recent years have licensed stations started to locate studios in homes and apartments.
The whole migration won't reach full maturity until someone in your neighborhood has a 50,000 Watt transmitter next to the washer-drier and a 200-foot tower by the birdbath.

That really sounds interesting. It never did occur to me that many part 15 radio stations started in closets. But now that you bring it up I do remember reading about a college station that sort of started like that.

It might be good in a nice sized closet, like under a flight of steps, like my grandmother had at her house. Over the years my studio/station has been in a basement, attic, and bedroom, with the longest time being in the basement, when I was in high school.
There was an article in Popular Communications magazine about a guy from New York City who had his full blown carrier-current station in a closet, which I thought was awesome at the time I read it. He was on 640 kilocycles, and reached blocks in a high density listening area.
