The commons is the cultural and natural resources accessible to all members of a society, including natural materials such as air, water, and a habitable earth. These resources are held in common, not owned privately.
We add one more item to the natural resources accessible to all members of society under the commons: the electromagnetic spectrum, a.k.a. the airwaves.
Unlike land, which to some extent is parceled up and sold privately, the airwaves are a limited resource.
