Yes to agree with Davidc that there would be no point for us to play the mainstream stuff that is played on commercial radio....the great thing about us is since we aren't kissing the "butt" of the advertisers we can offer a real alternative and play what you don't hear on commercial radio. I play what I like and what I grew up with, mainly 50s 60s 70s rock and roll with a sprinkling of eighties in the mix. This has almost disappeared from terrestrial radio especially the variety of songs I play which isn't just 300 mainstream hits. Where on radio can you hear Do-Wop, Blues, Folk, album rock bands, and not just the 20 that would be mainstream, also as Davidc said Jazz, Classical, etc etc. That's what we offer....a real alternative for the many of us radio doesn't care about which includes everyone over 55 or 60 years old. Also our formats don't have to be so rigid....like on my station you can hear in one song set: Loretta Lynn, followed by Frank Sinatra, followed by the Shirelles, followed by The Spinners, followed by Freddy Cannon, followed by Honeymoon Suite....etc etc etc....... Since my station is the one I listen to there's nothing there I don't like.
