Peter of the Stuph File Program asked if I would help him out by letting the community about his goal of reaching 400 patrons... and I'm happy to help, so here is the details as copied from his email:
------------------
I was wondering if you could get the word out to the folks you know who might be fans of The Stuph File Program about the fact that it is now on Patreon.com. I don’t know if you are familiar with Patreon.com [ www.patreon.com/TheStuphFileProgram ], but it is a platform where folks can become patrons of content, be it podcasts, music, art or whatever, for a nominal fee of their choosing. This in turn allows said creators to earn something in the hopes of being able to continue with their creative endeavours.
In Patreon, one of the things that creators do is list their goals on their page. My goal of reaching 400 patrons would herald in the removal of any ads. My second goal of 600 patrons would see the creation of a second show per week. So we’ll see where this all takes me. I’m fully aware that Part 15 broadcasters are, for the most part, hobbyists and therefore aren’t in the position to pay for content. But some of them might be able to become patrons of certain programs that they air or even like on their own. For instance, I’m offering folks to become patrons for $1 a week. At that price the minimum commitment is $52 a year, however there is nothing that says someone has to be a patron for the full year. Anyone could opt out at anytime. So let me know if you can and are willing to spread the word about Patreon.com. And please give me a heads up about it if you do. It would be much appreciated. Also the offers for others to do a guest slate on the program is still available, so let me know if anybody is keen. Thanks again for being a fan of the show. Thinking Thoughts Up In the Head
End80 Radio Delivers Peter Anthony Holder's Good Promotional Message: "I was wondering if you could get the word out to the folks you know who might be fans of The Stuph File Program about the fact that it is now on Patreon_com"
From Mr. Holder's point of doing business it is a smart idea to ask his affiliate stations to consider pitching in to promoting his good efforts and increasing the total audience and support for his Stuph File Program. Likely some will pitch in to pass the word along.
If any stations are reluctant to promote an alternative source for the program... in this case Patreon_com... it is saying "You don't need KDX to hear Stuph File because you can hear it on Patreon_com... and with hundreds-of-thousands of other programs and entertainments on the internet it is difficult to be generous enough to wave listeners away from your own station even if it benefits the program we are trying to boost.
The same conflict has always been true on licensed radio over the years... a program that talks about movies runs the risk of losing listeners by giving them the idea to go see a movie... talking about TV shows on a radio program could easily send listeners over to the TV set with the radio turned off... even a sponsor event, like a big sale at the mall, takes the risk of sending listeners into stores where they are away from the radio.
We have a noncommercial station that runs a lot of promotional announcements for local art and performance events, but we assume they are sending listeners away from the radio everytime they convince somebody to attend all these events.
Yet, if our good shows like Stuph File do not have needed support we might not have them very long, so it places stations in a predicament.
To help manage this problem KDX is opening a new job description... Predicament Director.... to come up with some kind of a balance between keeping listeners by exclusive self-promotion and losing listeners by telling them other good things beyond radio that can go do.
Help KDX raise the funds to hire the Predicament Director by sending your listeners to KDX.

It occurred to me after posting this, I got to wondering if this request/announcement of his also meant that the Stuph Files would no longer be considered free to air for our stations if we don't donate. So I asked him, and here is his reply:
Yes, of course it’s free to air. I’m just saying that if someone wants to join Patreon and give something, or if they want to just simply hit the donate button on my website and give something, they are most welcome, like anybody else to do so, but no one is compelled to do so. The only thing I’m against are those who take the show and air it without ever telling me that they’re doing so. PAH
