Many of those who frequent this forum have a fascination with electronics as opposed to just operating plug and play equipment. Usually it started with crystal radios, went into shortwave listening and then either CB or HAM radio. For me, that was the progression although my Part 15 broadcasting started before the CB radio phase. Very early, about age 10, I found a book at the library which detailed many radio circuits and an AM broadcaster. The book is "Using Electronics" by Harry Zarchy. In this book the AM broadcaster consisted of one transistor, an oscillator coil and a few other parts. Built on a piece of wood using nails for tie-points, it actually worked! I plugged my little tape recorder into the audio input for programming. I could even set it to record and use the microphone to do "Live" shows. Wow! I was on air and covered about a 300 foot radius. My neighborhood buddies could hear me at their homes. So why am I relating this to you? I'm 71 now and still playing with this stuff. Maybe some of you have always wanted to make little circuits. Well, if you or anyone else here would like to tinker with this stuff let me know. I'd be happy to lead you through some simple little gadgets. If you'd like to check out the book that brought me into the "maker" phase you can find it at this ALPB link: Equipment Info Page It's the last item in the list.
