Stop Playing in a Little Sand Box
Trying to reach a desired audience with one little-bitty micro-milliwatt radio station is the silliest thing.
Everything is wrong with the idea and yet they keep trying to do it!
Most of the air-space filled by the weak strength of a small signal is totally empty yards, parking lots and streets.
Of the possibly five households reached maybe NONE of them care about your format.
Yet the technology to accomplish the goal LEGALLY is all around!
For starters, the station at your house serves YOU and your family, maybe a neighbor might like it, but if they don't you might wish you had never told them about it.
The way to do it is FIND specific people who WANT what you have to offer, CONVINCE them to install a transmitter at THEIR location with an audio feed from your internet stream, and do the same thing for EVERY follower you can meet. TRANSMITTERS MUST BE PAIRED WITH LISTENERS.
FIND your audience by placing ads in college , church and retail news papers and websites, attending concerts, get to know your record stores, and work through school contacts.
Broadcasting at home is a hobby, but broadcasting to a public audience IS A BUSINESS and requires actually LEARNING about engineering, public relations, and MANAGEMENT. It can't be done for $2 from a side-table.
These forums are opportunities to learn and teach, and THEY ARE ALL THERE IS for the low power operator, so get serious about SAVING THE ALPB.

Carl, this is depressing. We have to think positive. My little BETS-1 station can get a decent signal(on a decent receiver) to a radius of 600 to 800 feet all around my house(measured on google maps). In that circle there's 60+ residences, and lots of cars. And FM gets into houses and townhouses better than AM does. I have no way of knowing but I would think someone would hear it especially when I keep a sign on the community mail box and once spent a lot of money on stamps and sent flyer to all the homes in range. A few years ago someone joined part 15.us who said they got my flyer in the mail and are listening....right on my street! Don't know if they are there now though. Having a lot of "range" doesn't necessarily mean lots of listeners. I hear so many on AM saying they get 1/2, 1, even 2, miles but I never hear with all that "range" if they have listeners. But thinking positive is best. I could go to Kops Collectables, a "oldies" record store here in Toronto and put a sign there but it's not where I live and would people drive to my area to sit in the car and listen?
Maybe they would!
I think I will take a drive there and see if I can put up a flyer in the store.

When I get my antenna outside along with the antenna tuning unit I do plan I'm possibly asking the Sunset Grill manager if I can put some pamphlet sup about my station Plus I do have Waterside graphics on my side so they may put a flyer up.

I printed up 200 flyers and drove around my coverage area and dropped them in peoples' mailboxes. I am going to do that again once the weather breaks and I have enhanced my ground radial system.

Don't Shoot The Messenger
"Is it against the law to put a flyer on a mailbox?
By law, a mailbox is intended only for receipt of postage-paid U.S. Mail. ... Additionally, the Postal Service has received complaints of flyers without paid postage being placed in mailboxes. Though many may be unaware, it is important to know that this type of activity is illegal by federal law.Sep 9, 2010"
What next? I guess we need a separate box for non-US mail.

I've no doubt that you are correct. I remember years ago when I was a Chief Journeyman Meatcutter (Meat Dept. Manager) for a small chain of independent supermarkets, that in one particular neighborhood that we served, many of the residents would make regular complaints to the local police of us "littering" on their property for delivering circulars to their doorstep! Of course these were not placed in their mailbox so was not the exact same "crime" but it is illustrative of their demeanor. These people were impossible to serve profitably, and at least a half dozen supermarkets attempted to serve them after us, and all failed, thus they were left with NO local food store. Out here where I am now I have had no such similar experiences. People are just happy that I am thinking of them and attempting to provide them a service. Let me add that I have also done the same dropping leaflets in mailboxes for a lost pet again with no issues. Good people out here. When I first moved here in 2006, once the construction of our new home was complete, I was required to go to our local Post Office and request they start delivery of our mail to our mailbox. As I made this request and before I even gave the lady at the Post Office my name, she turned around and said "Hey Bill! The new guy is here for his mail!" and he then brought it to the counter. Love small town life!

I think now-a-days that's more like a myth. I think the ONLY place that's really enforceable is a box owned by the USPS. I own my box and you can leave a flyer in it if you want. It's kind of like removing the label on your mattress "under penalty of law" whatever that means. Come to think of it, maybe our Resident Hobby Agent moonlights as a member of the Mattress Police.

Mattress Matters
I had a skinny guy with a mustache ask to read my mattress. When I turned him away he wrote something on a clipboard and said they'd look at my mattress one way or the other. Then he checked my chimney for antennas.
I got nervous and had to rush into the bathroom.

Actually, there is a guy in town that has two mail boxes.
One labeled "US MAIL", the other labeled "JUNK MAIL."
The 2nd one has a hole in the bottom with a waste basket attached.
Another person has two boxes. One mounted 10 feet above ground labeled "AIR MAIL."
