Bird Neighbors, That Is
Sunny day near 70o F we took to the campus to clear the way for antenna installations.
Being a "sanctuary city" the Internet Building Campus provides habitat and migratory shelter for numerous bird species.
Today's project was mere feet from a house on a pole and the habitants were very quiet for 90-minutes, but then called a time-out by gathering 20-feet away and staging a loud occupancy protest with sqwacks and whistles, driving me indoors for awhile.
Integrating antenna structures with bird and botanical features is an architectural puzzle but there's always a concern that such well-intentioned extras can cause de-tuning.
For a length of time a tripod tower in the front held flowering vines and the antenna for 1550 AM, but a build-up of rain water on the leafs together with a strong wind brought the whole thing down.
The below ground footing of a vertical structure needs to be ultra strong to withstand the powers of nature.
Let's go see what we can do now.
