Entertainment With Old Batteries
Now that I have some knowledge about operating the "Smart" battery charger, I've been playing with these 4x Radio Shack re-chargeables that have been around for over 10-years.
Their original stated capacity marked on each battery is 1500 mAh.
According to the Opus Charger, their capacity now is 559 mAh, 624 mAh, 679 mAh and 712 mAh, respectively... less than half of their original power rating.
So, I have set the machine to "re-condition" these batteries, which will be running probably all day and night and finish tomorrow.
At their reduced capacities the batteries are unable to operate the Zoom Digital Recorder, as I said.
The weakened batteries have been able to run the TECSUN PL-310 Radio, which has a battery indicator on the screen showing 3-gradations... even when it's down to the last gradation almost empty, the radio still plays. So even if the batteries cannot be returned to full capacity they will still have usefulness!
It'll be the talk of the ALPB meeting this Saturday!
Another Interesting Battery Finding
This new batch of pre-charged Amazon Basic Batterries have capacities of 2400 mAh... an Amazon customer wanted to know if these were thicker than other AA rechargeables. I measured and found that YES, these are slightly thicker.
I installed 3- of them into the TECSUN PL-310 Radio and the radio doesn't work with them. Also, one of the batteries was tight in the chamber and had to be carefully "un-wedged". The radio is fine, normal sized AA batteries work great in it. Too strange.
