I don't do roof's, at least not metal roofs. I have experience in roofing a house from laying down plywood to the paper and shingles but never messed with metal roofing. And yeah , that would make a great ground plane and I have thought about it a few times.
Climbing is one of the things i avoid if at all possible, i have Essential Tremors so being up high is not a good idea for me unless the tremors are minimal the day i chose to climb and even then i would have to have a spotter with me. ( the tremors are what is slowing me down on making a video for this project)
You know a wire across that roof from the tall upstairs to the other end of the house next to the neighbors mobile home would be good for a Shortwave or Longwave antenna. Something to bounce and hopefully direct the signal into the ether.

I just picked one of these up at Palco. Installed on a mast higher than the peak of my garage, 15' or so. 50' of RG8 coax. Plus jumpers for the meter, into a President Washington Base. Good SWR. Poor reception. I was trying to improve upon my original setup, which was a K-40 on a metal plate on my backyard fence! When I A/B the two setups, I can hear a local contact but not the more distant transmission. I've got to be missing something here...

You aren't missing anything in your set up,i have noticed over time that the reception of far off stations is not very good compared to the dipole i had been running in the past. I will be going back to using the dipole once i get help hoisting it back up in the first wavelength for 11 meters. CB.

I remember the old CB days. And some of those tram antennas and Firestik antennas were really nice. I can imagine it could be modified to work with part 15 AM. Some experiments should be done with it to see what can happen. I'm willing to bet that the Rings would be pretty good and if he can get a good SWR like that on the CD band you might be able to get a awesome SWR on the Aman with a few modifications of course.

I replaced the brand new 50' rg8 with an older 100' line, and voila, Excellent reception and SWR! I noticed that when I was disconnecting the line from my meter (leaving radio on) reception improved while it wiggled. Boy, that just saved me from the brink, at least until the next hair brained scheme I come up with! For the money, you can't beat this antenna. I'll be packing it with me on my next trip to set up an impromptu base station.

Birds From the Storm
Attention Blue Bucket Radio! We can see a giant orange and black bird near your back porch! It may have been blown up by Hurricane Matthew.
MRAM, if roof-talk is viewed as an RF ground plane it can go in this thread. Making a ground-plane that can pass as a roof is the way to do it.
