I remember this transmitter being WQXR and playing classical music at 1560 for such a long time. They also have some history as a pioneering in the 'extended band' as it was in the early decades of broadcasting. There was a time when the AM dial topped out at 1500 KC, and with improvements in transmitters and audio quality, it was proposed that frequencies above 1500 should be opened for 'high fidelity' broadcasters to use, stations using a wide frequency response.
That's something I read in an electronics magazine, and I don't remember every detail, but I believe WQXR was one of the first stations in the extended band.
I have to wonder if they will get the 1560 signal back on the air, or if some other broadcaster will? If it stays off for a while, it might be an opportunity for some Part-15 antenna broadcasters to experiment and consider operating there, especially all across the Northeast US at night.

Family Stations will suspend operations of 1560 WFME New York on Friday, February 12.
The operator of the Christian Preaching “Family Radio” network sold the five acre tower site of WFME to logistics real estate operator Prologis in November 2020 for $51 million.
The station is running occasional sweepers explaining that 1560 will be leaving the air, but that their programming will soon reappear in the market on a new, not named signal.
